This Week at Fleetwood Park - Principal s Message: June 4 th June 8 th Good Thursday morning Dragons! This is a special time of the year at Fleetwood Park Secondary. Over the past week we have been recognizing the amazing accomplishments of our students. We have so much talent under our roof! School life is full of powerful learning and affirming celebration. Last weekend our Track and Field team competed in the BC championships. Congratulations to our FPSS team for representing us with pride and distinction. Special recognition goes to the Grade 8 Boys 4 x 400m relay team who finished first in the province! https://youtu.be/7v32q8sq2yo In addition, the Fleetwood Park Sr Boy s Rugby team finished 3 rd in BC in the Tier 2 Provincial finals! Congratulations team! We are very proud of you!

Last week we also learned that the official results of the CAP Physics Prize Exam (a VERY difficult Physics contest) are out. Fleetwood Park Secondary student Andrew Luo placed 4 th in BC and 18 th overall in Canada! From his top 20 placement, he has been invited to compete in the Canadian Astronomy Olympiad for a chance to earn a spot on Team Canada in the International Olympiad on Astronomy and Astrophysics (IOAA). Please congratulate Andrew if you see him; this is another huge accomplishment for Fleetwood Park! On Monday afternoon we hosted our annual Athletics Banquet. This was a chance to recognize all of our students athletes, coaches, managers and community volunteers who have given so much to our Athletics Program. The culture of our school is strengthened through the positive and dedicated contributions of our student athletes and coaches. And, the life-long lessons learned through sport will carry our students very far! I would like to thank Athletic Directors Mr. Thibault, Mr. Ghuman, Mr. Erb and Ms. Bryant for your work and passion and leadership in FPSS Athletics.

We were greeted on Tuesday morning with the sound of Jazz! What a great way to start the morning. It was a big day for the Fleetwood Park Music Program with an impromptu student concert in the morning and then our Jazz Concert for friends and family in the evening. I was so impressed with the talents of our student-musicians. It was a magical evening of music! Thank you to Mr. Gough, Mr. Tse and Mr. Robinson for your devotion and guidance of our Music students. They are very fortunate! It was very apparent to all of us in the audience that our Dragons have worked very hard throughout the year and have a love of music. It was wonderful to see the smiles of enjoyment and appreciation throughout the evening. Way to go Dragons!

This week we have been preparing for the Commencement Ceremony of the Fleetwood Park Secondary Class of 2018. Our Commencement Planning Committee has been working very hard to bring this very special event together. On Wednesday afternoon we ran the rehearsal for our students. Again, this is a once-in-a-lifetime celebration we are honoured to host. We know it will be an incredible evening for our graduates and their families. The commencement ceremony recognizes our students growth and learning. It symbolizes the transition from child to young adult, and it celebrates their many amazing accomplishments. We look forward to sharing this occasion with you on Friday evening. On Wednesday our teacher team of top notch Ultimate players took to the field to take on the students. I was pleasantly surprised with the skills of the teacher team they roared to an impressive victory! Today the teams will compete in Indoor Soccer Go Teachers Go!

Today at lunch is the final Staff Committee meeting of the year. We will be reviewing the proposals for this summer s Professional Development activities: SOGI Education and Creating Cultures of Peace. I have been admiring our recent Art installation of Cardboard Portraits and Wire Sculpture. Thank you and congratulations to our Senior Art students for your inspiration and talent!

On Wednesday, Mr. Salary s Science 9 students were playing Laser Golf! Our students enjoyed the chance to apply their knowledge of reflection and refraction in a fun and hands-on contest! I even saw a hole in one! Thank you for inviting me to your class. Again, all grade 12 students and families are reminded that the Commencement Ceremony will take place this Friday evening at the Bell Center for the Performing Arts (Sullivan Heights Secondary). Please ensure you are there by 6:15pm at the latest.

All Dragons are reminded that our Bell Schedule for 2018/19 has been finalized. Please see details below.

On Saturday evening, we will be hosting another evening of Music with our Concert Band Performance. It will be a very entertaining evening of excellence in Music. We hope to see you here! The final weeks of the school year are ticking past very quickly. All students and staff are encouraged to appreciate the excitement and celebration all around us this time will go by very fast! Enjoy your Friday have a relaxing weekend - see you on Monday! Ken Mission Statement: At Fleetwood Park Secondary we value excellence in education and strive to provide a learning environment where all students are encouraged to build successful futures.
