October 2016 Volume 64, Issue 10 Riverside-San Bernardino Counties The Inland Orchid News. Below is her bio and some fun things to learn about her. Tanya Cupino developed a love of orchids early in life. On a list of life goals written in her first year of college, she included having a room devoted to growing orchids along with such mundane things as finish college and buy a car. Despite a mostly brown thumb throughout the next decade, she kept trying to learn about orchid cultivation and eventually joined the Riverside/ San Bernardino Counties Orchid Society after her fiancé gave her a Phalaenopsis as an engagement present in 2013. With the kind and helpful instruction of the Society, she has managed to keep her engagement orchid alive and growing for more than three years. Tanya considers herself a medium-level beginner. She was bitten hard by the orchid bug and has part of her kitchen counter devoted to orchids, with humidity trays, indoor irrigation and a grow light. Tanya has already attempted her first Phalaenopsis cross and is looking forward to receiving the flasks of baby orchid plants from a seed pod she sent to a commercial grower last summer. In the spring of this year, she was asked to write a two-part article on the basics of Phalaenopsis care in Mediterranean Gardening and Outdoor Living magazine. Tanya is excited to share the information from these articles in a presentation designed especially for new growers, with some tidbits that will hopefully be interesting to even the most seasoned orchid aficionados. Please invite your friends, especially those who consider themselves beginners, to come and enjoy the presentation Growing Your Orchids Beautiful: How to keep your grocery store orchid alive and blooming year after year! on October 13, 2016. Tina and I really enjoyed all the cards and thoughts. Hopefully by the time the holiday party is here Tina will be able to accompany me and enjoy the festivities and friendship with all of you. My deepest thanks and appreciation to all of you Don & Tina Phillips
