Texas A&M University-San Antonio INSTRUCTIONS TO APPLY FOR ELEMENTARY AND SECONDARY/ALL LEVEL STUDENT TEACHING TPCC Student Teaching Spring 2013 To apply for student teaching: 1. All pre-service teacher candidates must have a letter of admission to the Teacher Preparation and Certification Center and have successfully completed two field based semesters prior to applying for the student teaching semester. 2. Student teaching should be completed the semester before graduation. Due to the intensity of student teaching requirements, it is recommended that all course work be completed prior to the student teaching semester. Students who take course work in addition to student teaching must have permission from the Director of Teacher Preparation and Certification. 3. A cumulative GPA of at least 2.5 (transfer and TAMU-SA work) and at least a 2.5 average in the delivery systems (Bilingual, Early Childhood, Special Education, secondary content area, etc.) are required before placement in student teaching. 4. Submit a current transcript printed from Jaguar Connect. 5. A copy of your current signed degree plan will be requested by TPCC. 6. Submit the complete application thoughtfully and completely handwritten with no errors, cross-outs, or whiteouts. (You will be required to correct errors). Your handwritten essay will be reviewed by TPCC staff and faculty. 7. Attach supporting documentation for review sessions, practice tests, field based semesters, and other required documents. Documentation of field based placements must include the semester completed, school district and campus of assignment, name of mentor teacher, type of classroom and name of university supervisor. Documentation of review sessions must include the in-person certificate, T-CERT certificate or a printed email from the Testing & Assessment Officer indicating confirmation of hours. Documentation of practice tests must include the Practice Test Results (with your grade included) email sent from the Testing & Assessment Officer. If review sessions or practice tests have not been completed, indicate such on page 2 of this application. Failure to complete review sessions and practice tests prior to student teaching will delay placement. 8. Submit complete application with all attachments to the TPCC office no later than Friday September 28, 2012. All students submitting applications late will be required to submit an appeal to the Director of for a late placement. All placements are made on a first come first served basis. Districts make placements and TPCC cannot guarantee requested placements. 3
Upon acceptance for student teaching: Texas A&M University San Antonio 1. Student will be notified of approval or denial by the TPCC Office. 2. Complete all documentation required in order to be processed by the assigned school district. You will be contacted by TPCC staff regarding the specific procedures you must follow. You will not be allowed to report to your assigned placement until you have been cleared through the school district. 3. Attend a mandatory orientation meeting which will be conducted on Friday, October 19 th, 2012 from 9:00a.m.-12:00p.m. at the Brooks Campus. 4. Do NOT attempt to make placements or contact district or campus staff regarding placements. Each district requires specific procedures in order to accept pre-service teachers and the TPCC center works directly with district contacts in order to make your placements. 5. Students will be required to attempt state exams in their certification area prior to completing student teaching. 6. TAMU-SA does not provide post-baccalaureate probationary certifications for students who do not pass the PPR after completing degree requirements. Students will only be recommended for standard certification upon meeting degree and state exam requirements.
