PRE-APPRENTICESHIP PROGRAMS TIMELINE APPRENTICESHIP APPLICATION PROCESS DATES RESPONSIBLE PARTY Students must be at least 17 years of age to apply and on track for high school graduation 2017-2018 Student Applications made available to students no later than October 27, 2017 October 27, 2017 Counselors/Pre-Apprenticeship Coordinator Application due to the CTE Department December 15, 2017 FNSBSD Students Supporting Documents: Proof of Age (Birth Certificate or Passport); Transcripts; School Attendance Records; WorkKeys Scores; Driver s License With Driving Record; Reference Letters January 31, 2018 FNSBSD Students CTE Director provides screened applications to Apprenticeship Programs March 1, 2018 CTE Director Apprenticeship Programs notify the CTE Director of selected applicant(s). No later than April 2, 2018 Apprenticeship Programs CTE Director notifies principals of selected applicants. No later than April 9, 2018 CTE Director Signing Ceremony with principal, parents, student, counselors, & Apprenticeship Programs at the school district. Ceremony will be held at the FNSBSD Administrative Center in the School Board room. May 9, 2018 3:00-4:15 CTE Director Principal Counselors Apprenticeship Programs Selected Students Selected students will begin their Apprenticeships near the time of graduation. Dates may vary with each program. PRE-APPRENTICESHIP PROGRAMS APPLICATION PACKET Overview: The Pre-Apprenticeship programs are special agreements designed to enable high school seniors to gain direct entry into Federally Registered Apprenticeship programs by applying to the Pre-Apprenticeship program sponsored by the Fairbanks North Star Borough School District (FSNBSD) and one of the following: Alaska Joint Electrical Apprenticeship & Training Trust (AJEATT) Local 1547, Fairbanks Area Carpenters Local 1243, Fairbanks Area Plumbers & Pipefitters Local 375, Alaska Operating Engineers Employers/Employee Training Trust (AOEETT) Local 302 Successful applicants may have the opportunity to become Federally Registered Apprentices once completing the program. As Federally Registered Apprentices, Pre- Apprentice participants will be expected to conform to the apprentice standards and policies adopted by the Apprenticeship program. Pre-Apprenticeship applicants must provide proof of the following additional eligibility requirements: Be at least 17 years of age to apply and accepted to the Pre-Apprenticeship Program (18 years old to become a Federally Registered Apprentice), Be a resident of Alaska, Have a valid State of Alaska driver s license, Be currently enrolled in a FNSBSD high school, Be physically fit to perform the Apprenticeship work. All the Apprenticeship programs require students to: Complete one or more of the following College & Career Readiness assessments: ACT, SAT, or WorkKeys (Required) Obtain a high school diploma, and Comply with all Apprenticeship policies. WORKKEYS If WorkKeys test is scheduled through the Department of Labor, please advise them that this is for the FNSBSD Pre-Apprenticeship program which requires all three exams (Applied Math, Graphic Literacy, and Workplace Documents). 3

Current resume containing work history. SUPPORTING DOCUMENTS DUE BY JANUARY 31, 2018 Proof of age by providing a copy of birth certificate or passport. Official high school transcripts. Include University transcripts for any Tech Prep credits received. School attendance record. WorkKeys scores. Valid State of Alaska driver s license with a copy of driving record. Two letters of reference from the applicant s school. STATEMENTS OF UNDERSTANDING Read and initial each box below: 1. I have read and understand the Pre-Apprenticeship program requirements. 2. I have provided documentation of academic qualifications for apprenticeship. 3. I understand that an incomplete or unsigned application packet will not be processed. 4. I understand that, if selected, I may be required to complete a physical examination as required by the Apprenticeship Program. 5. I understand that, if selected, I will be required to complete a drug test as required. We hereby submit the application and verify all information provided on this form is true and accurate. We hereby grant permission to former employers, references, and schools to disclose information related to the application process.
