Knights Newsletter R I V E R R I D G E A T H L E T I C S. O R G May 7, 2018 All the Cool Kids Will Be There... Hosting State Tournament games are a lot of work, but they are fun. You have a great opportunity this week to see some terrific baseball in your own back yard. We will be hosting the Elite 8 round of the baseball State Tournament this week. With a double header played Wednesday and a potential third game played Thursday. We should have great weather so head to the park. There is a $10 charge for the double header unless you have a GHSA coaches pass. It is a GHSA event and we cannot accept CCSD ID s. Also be sure to wish our Track and Field participants luck as the head to Carrollton this week. We will honor them and our lacrosse team with a Spirit Walk Wednesday morning so fill the halls and give them some love. Edge of the Sword: SPRING SPORTS CLASSROOM CREATIVITY HONORS They may be Jr. Knight s, but they are learning a valuable lesson to take pride in your facility!

FORE! Our boys and girls team competed in the Area Tournament this week. They came up a little short, but improved from last year s result. Zach Johnson made the turn in 45! We had 3 golfers that moved on to the back 9! We shot a school record and improved our overall team score by 89 strokes this year. Knights shoot a school best in the area tournament! Zach Johnson led all players with a consistent 45-45. Eric Sabula also broke 100 and shot a 96. Mia Jacobs, Jensen St. John and Holly Humphry all competed on the girls side with Jensen narrowly missing qualifying for the State Meet. These kids don t get the publicity of other sports since they are never playing at home, but they put in the hours like everyone else and do a great job representing our school.

This recognition is awarded to graduating swimmers who lettered their senior year and maintained an overall 3.75 GPA. We also need to congratulate Congratulations to Cole Samstag for being named to the first team all-region soccer team. Jorge Andrade and Sergio Chong were also named to the second team. Every year, GA Swimming selects a team of swimmers to represent the state at the Southern Zone Championship (8 states are in the Southern Zone). Sarah Brown is currently a freshman & she's very excited about this opportunity. Page 3

On the Run Track still has some work to do, with 5 competing this week in Carrollton at the State Meet, but they took some time to reflect on the year at their banquet. Wish our competitors the best of luck and support them at the Spirit Walk this week. Congratulations to Alex Shetler for qualifying for the State Track Meet in the 300m hurdles, Macy White for qualifying for the State Track Meet in the 200m and 100m dash, Chioma Uwaomah for qualifying for the State Track Meet in the 100 hurdles, Brady Juliani for qualifying for the State Track Meet in the triple jump, and Rob Zell for qualifying for state in the 3200. The Cherokee County Sports Hall of Fame will honor a dozen top CCSD student athletes as part of its annual banquet. The May 4 event will recognize this year s HOF inductees & the Most Outstanding Senior Athletes from each CCSD high school. Congratulations to Faith Arthur and Chris Williams.

Knights Newsletter Baseball kept up their winning ways with a sweep of Winder-Barrow in the second round of the State Tournament. The victories put us in the Elite 8 and we will host a double-header Wednesday with a potential 3rd game Thursday. I will communicate game times once they are confirmed.

Knights Newsletter Boys Lax- Our boys traveled to Cambridge this week for the first round of the State Tournament. We started out slow, but played a terrific second half. Our boys came up a little short, but this team made history by being the first Boys Lacrosse team in school history to head to the State Tournament. Congratulations to the boys and coaches. Page 6
