Prerequisites: Math 095 with a grade of C or better, or eligibility for Math 102 as determined through the SBVC assessment process. Course Description: We will cover material from chapters 1-2 and 4-8. The topics will include: polynomial rational functions, exponential and logarithmic functions, conics, systems of nonlinear equations and inequities, and an introduction to sequences and series. Student Learning Outcomes: 1. Students will demonstrate the ability to solve real-world problems employing exponential and logarithmic models. 2. Students will demonstrate the ability to analyze basic functions. 3. Students will demonstrate the ability to solve systems of nonlinear equations and inequalities. 4. Students will demonstrate the ability to analyze equations and graphs of conics. Attendance: Attending every class period is very important. Missing classes can severely affect your grade. If you decide that you wish to drop the class, it is your responsibility to make the drop official. If you miss a test given prior to the drop deadline date, you will be dropped from the course. Homework: Homework assignments will be assigned on weekly bases. Homework will be completed online using MyMathLab (an online homework management system). To register for MyMathLab do the following: 1.) Enter www.pearsonmylab.com in your web browser. 2.) Under Register, click Student. 3.) In the Course ID field enter: mcloughlin03977

4.)Sign in or follow the instructions to create an account. Use an email address that you check and, if possible, use that same email address for your username. Read and accept the License Agreement and Privacy Policy. 5.) Click Access Code. Enter a MyMathLab student access code (packaged with your new text, standalone at your bookstore, or available for purchase with a major credit card). You can also get temporary access without payment for 17 days. Note that MyMathLab comes with a electronic copy of the book so you do not need to buy a hard copy of the book. Quizzes: There will be 8 quizzes during the semester. No make-up quizzes will be given. Each student can drop their lowest quiz score. Cheating is a violation of the Code of Student Conduct and will not be tolerated in this class. Cheating includes letting someone copy your work. Tests: There will be 3 tests during the semester. No make-up exams will be given. You must show all work to test questions. An answer without any work shown will receive no credit. Final Exam: The final exam will be cumulative. If the score on your final is higher than your lowest test, your final exam percentage will replace your lowest test score. Grading: Tests 35% Quizzes 35% Homework 5% Final 25% Grades: Letter grades will be assigned as follows: Percentage of the points Course Grade x 90% A 80% x 90% B 70% x 80% C 60% x 70% D x 60% F Tutoring Services: On campus, there is tutoring services available in the Math Success Center, which located in the Physical Sciences Building, Room 121.
