Teacher of PE MPS / UPS Part Time (0.4 to 0.5 FTE) Fixed Term for 1 Year Appointment Date: September 2018 We are seeking to appoint a well-qualified, highly motivated professional to our PE Department on a fixed term basis from September 2018 for 1 Year. We welcome applications from all excellent classroom practitioners, particularly those who are keen to inspire students through teaching exciting lessons, implementing creative and personalised activities and supporting progress through high quality assessment and feedback. We are a forward thinking co-educational Academy with c.850 students on roll and a highly committed and enthusiastic staff. Situated in a beautiful location, the school is within commuting distance of Bath, Swindon and the M4. Our most talented students compete in a number of intra and inter competitions. At Year 11, we run an extensive options programme, ensuring that every student continues to participate in PE and sport right up to their exam season. Our extracurricular programme is extensive, and covers a wide range of sports. The focus in this academic year have been the increased participation of girls in PE, across every year group. Consequently, we have had notable success at county and national level in a range of sports, and across a range of year groups. We are continually raising standards to produce the highest levels of student achievement and are seeking to appoint a highly motivated professional who shares our aims and our ethos. Curriculum Leader for PE The provision of a full learning experience and support for students Principal, Deputy Headteacher, Assistant Headteachers, Curriculum Leaders/ Directors, Head of Years, teaching/support staff, external agencies and parents All employees of The John Bentley School are required to understand and contribute to the school s Objectives and Core Values. Principle (Core) Responsibilities Operational/ Strategic To assist in the development of appropriate syllabuses, resources, schemes of work, marking policies and teaching strategies in the curriculum area To contribute to the curriculum area SDP and its implementation To plan and prepare courses and lessons To contribute to the whole school s planning activities Teaching, Learning and Curriculum: To assist the Teaching and Learning Coordinator for PE and Assistant Headteacher to ensure that the curriculum area provides a range of teaching which complements the school s strategic objectives To assist in the process of curriculum development and change to ensure continued relevance to the needs of students, examining and awarding bodies and the school s aims To assist the Head of Year in the process of curriculum development for Personal Development Time (PDT), Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education (PSHE) and other tutor group and year group provision Staff To take part in continuous professional learning, utilising the school s self-evaluation processes To maintain good subject knowledge and an awareness of excellent, current practice in teaching To engage actively in the Appraisal and Review Process To ensure the effective and efficient deployment of classroom support To work as a member of designated teams and to contribute positively to effective working relations within the school School Self Evaluation Support the Curriculum Leader, Head of Year and other post holders in meeting the expectations described in the School Self Evaluation handbook, including reporting procedures and deadlines. Communications To communicate effectively with the parents of students, as appropriate Where appropriate, communicate and work with persons or agencies outside the school
