SELECTION PROCESS After several unsuccessful months of searching for artwork which would be both appropriate for the site and which would complement the conceptual aesthetic of The DeSota, Carter Development was introduced to DV by the project s architect. DV created 8 concepts for the artwork and thru a selection process coordinated by representatives of Carter and Hunt (the development s financier), was unanimously selected. SELECTION PROCESS PAGE 4
ARTWORK is a contemporary emblem, punctuating the Central Avenue entrance to the downtown core. It is a simple, 8 vertex, polygonal structure - modulated, repeated and combined. It is a mathematical, abstract expression of water. continually creates a dialogue between its interior surfaces, and the exterior surroundings through its reflective surfaces. reflects images of the sky toward viewers below, while it reflects images of life on the street toward the sky above. Its juxtaposition with the structure of The DeSota creates the illusion that the building itself is a geode - fractured open, and exposing a crystalline core. SIZE 16 x 16 x 1 MATERIALS 1.
