CMS majors are encouraged to complete a minor. If students choose not to pursue a minor, only courses from relevant majors are approved in this area: AFAM, ART, BUSA, BLAW, CSCI, CRIT, CRJU, ECON, EDUC, ENGL, FREN, HIST, HUMN, ITFN, INTL, JOUR, MGMT, PHIL, POLS, PSYC, SOCI, SPAN, THEA, and WST. Courses with prefixes not listed above that are relevant to both the major and the student s career interest may be approved via course substitution with advisor approval. Career courses may not be used. No more than 9 hours of courses applied to Minor/Guided Electives may be 000-2000 level.. Students may choose to be a generalist by taking any upper division CMS/COMM classes (or other approved courses) in the CMS Concentration Area or they may choose to earn a concentration by taking at least 2 hours in one of the three concentrations: media production; communication and human relations; or media and cultural studies.. All courses applied to meet the upper division requirements, including guided electives courses, must have grades of C or better. 5. To earn a concentration in media production, students must take both CMS 20 and CMS 220 in Area F. 6. To earn a corporate communication minor, students must take any two of these courses (CMS 550, CMS 560, and CMS 20) and 2 hours from among the following courses (CMS 60, CMS 0, CMS 720, CMS 580, COMM 00, CMS 560 and CMS 800). Up to six hours from the following courses may be used in the 2 hour requirement (COMM 00, CMS 500, COMM 20, COMM 0, COMM 0, ENGL 650, ENGL 900, and BUSA 700). 7. To earn a film minor, there are two required courses: CMS 200 and THEA 880.
