Office Staff whether employed at an attorney s firm, in a corporate legal department or considering employment in the legal profession. Who will benefit most from these courses? Secretaries Receptionists Administrators Debt collecting staff Bookkeepers Messengers Candidate attorneys and paralegals Individuals who want to pursue a career in the legal profession. Who will not benefit? Practising attorneys and advocates will not benefit from these courses, as they were designed on a basic and practical entry level. FEES Please refer to page 2. The fee includes the training manual/text book. VENUE Please refer to the training schedule. CLOSING DATE FOR APPLICATIONS One week prior to commencement of the selected course. Confirmation of attendance will be on a firstcome, first-served basis. TRAINING MATERIAL The training manual will be provided on the first day of the training. CERTIFICATION A certificate will be awarded for each course attended. Please note that a certificate will be awarded only if a participant has satisfactorily complied with the attendance and performance requirements of each course and with the proviso that there are no fees outstanding. WHY ATTEND? During 2010 and 2011, LEAD trained more than 3 500 legal support staff members in various areas of the law or law firm administration. Participants left the training feeling empowered, motivated and with a better understanding of the law. These newly acquired skills were reflected in the feedback from some of the participating law firms: She is now finishing tasks given within the limited time and she is able to do more work. He is more productive and gives fresh ideas that improve the firm s capabilities. She seeks deeper understanding of substantive and procedural law since the training. Work is done with greater efficiency and less corrective actions needed afterwards. His general outlook towards his work has improved as well as his professional image. The courses are a great asset to our firm. HOW TO APPLY Please familiarise yourself with the course outcomes (obtainable from the LEAD website) before registering for a specific course. Complete the attached Contract of Enrolment form on page 3 in full by using clear block letters. The completed contract can be e-mailed, together with a copy of the participant s ID/Passport copy and proof of payment to act@lssalead.org.za or faxed to 086 743 1942. LEAD will confirm receipt of the registration within 36 (business hours). If this does not occur, it means that your enrolment contract was not received. In such a case, please follow up by phone on (012) 441-4652 or by e-mail on act@lssalead.org.za. A learner who wishes to cancel must do so at least 2 (two) weeks prior to commencement of the course in question. 2. Cancellations must be done in writing and e-mailed to act@lssalead.org.za or faxed to 086 743 1942. 3. Confirmation of the cancellation will be confirmed via e-mail. Should a learner not receive a cancellation confirmation from LEAD, it means that the cancellation request was not received. Learners should follow up ASAP or it will mean that he/she will be held liable for the full course amount. 4. Learners who do not cancel and fail to attend the training will be held responsible for the full course amount. Fee. The only exceptions are if the reasons for cancellation are one of the following: a) Death of a close family member (death certificate should be submitted); b) Severe medical condition which results in the participant no longer being able to continue with the course (medical certificate should be submitted); 5. LSSA/LEAD shall have the right in its sole discretion to postpone or cancel tuition in any programme initially advertised and offered on the basis of insufficient demand. Should the LSSA/LEAD cancel the proposed training, the registered learners will be given reasonable notice of the cancellation and all fees paid by the learner will be refunded. General 1.
