KINNELON HIGH SCHOOL - CLASS OF 2023 SCHEDULING NOTES (updated 2/8/19) Keep in mind the following guidelines when making course selections.- - Of the courses for which you will be scheduled, you must take the following five (5) classes: 1. *English 1 2. *World History 3. *Mathematics Algebra Geometry 4. *Science - Biology 5. Physical Education + Health 1 *SELECT THE COURSE WHICH CORRESPONDS TO RECOMMENDATION It is strongly recommended that all incoming freshmen begin and/or continue the study of the world language course sequence in 9 th grade. Therefore, for your sixth (6 th ) course selection, choose from Spanish, French, Latin If continuing Spanish or French, 9 th grade course placement will be based on 8 th grade teacher recommendation ELECTIVES: Selections for 7 th and 8 th classes can include: 2 full year classes ( 5 credits each) OR 1 full year class ( 5 credits) + 2 half-year classes (2.5 credits + 2.5 credits) OR 4 half-year classes (2.5 credits + 2.5 credits + 2.5 credits + 2.5 credits) o You must indicate alternative electives. Alternate electives should be classes other than the ones selected as primary choice options. o Review the KHS Academic Bulletin * Kinnelon High School 2019-2020 Academic Bulletin AND KHS ELECTIVE VIDEOS * ELECTIVE VIDEOS - 9th GRADE to find the following: Graduation requirements Course / elective descriptions Prerequisites for possible future course selections Sample programs of study Services offered by the guidance department List of athletic teams and extracurricular activities o Course placement is based on multiple measures AND current level of progress in each class. Recommendations made at this time are preliminary and may be reconsidered near the end of the year if there is change in performance. However, feeder course requirements/prerequisite courses cannot be waived. Please contact respective counselor at the high school for more information; contact information is noted below.

Class Registration through POWER SCHOOL Using the Class Registration page in PowerSchool, students and their parents can manage their course requests and view placement recommendations. LOG ONTO POWER SCHOOL Power School portal link -- ENTER USER NAME + PASSWORD Register for Classes Use the following procedure to request classes for the next year. 1. On the main menu, click Class Registration. The Class Registration page appears.. 2. Click the Pencil icon to select courses from each area as instructed. The Course Request pop-up window appears. THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION WILL APPEAR: COURSE NAME, COURSE #, CREDITS, PREREQUISITE NOTES, and ALERTS NOTE: Teacher recommendations for academic courses appear in the ALERT COLUMN see ROAD SYMBOL. SELECT THE COURSE WHICH CORRESPONDS TO TEACHER RECOMMENDATION 3. Click Okay. The Course Request pop-up window closes. A green checkmark appears in the area for which you selected courses. Note: A red exclamation mark appears if courses need to be selected for an area. 4. Repeat Step 2 through Step 3 for each course request. Click Submit. The [Course Requests page appears.] How to View Course Requests 1. On the start page, click Class Registration from the navigation menu. The Class Registration page appears. 2. Click View course requests. The [Scheduling Year] Course Requests page.
