VCE Subjects (Units 1-4) At Year 11: Students study 6 subjects for 8 periods a cycle. All Year 11 students are required to undertake RE studies. Students study 5 subjects for 8 periods a cycle. By application, students may select to study a minimum of 4 subjects based on completing two Unit 3 & 4 subject(s) as part of the Accelerated Learning. All students undertake classes and participate in Reflections Days. Acceleration (refer to Acceleration Learning Policy) Year 11 students can apply for acceleration to study one VCE or VET Unit 3&4 subject. High achieving students can apply to study two VCE Unit 3&4 subjects in Year 11. Based on their results, the Assistant Principal Learning, Head of Senior School and Head of Learning (10 12) approve such a request. The following VCE/VET Unit 3 & 4 subjects are offered for acceleration at Year 11. Students will undertake a combination of VCE and VET subjects including industry-specific TAFE programs and structured work place learning. The structure of the VCAL program at Marcellin is outlined below: Year 11 VCAL program VCAL RE Personal Development Skills Work-related Skills VCAL Literacy VCAL Numeracy VET option 1 (External) VET option 2 (Internal) Year 12 VCAL program Seminar Personal Development Skills Work-related Skills VCAL Literacy VCAL Numeracy VET option 1 (External) Note: Year 10 students are asked to complete an application form to undertake VCAL in Year 11. Unless specified, they are to enter VCE subject preferences during their Subject Selection Interview and will meet with the VCAL Coordinator to confirm their enrolment in VCAL. Students complete the program by receiving an industry-recognised certificate awarded by the VCAA.
