Our Vision: Dear Parents, St Michael s is a catholic school community inspired by the life of Jesus. We are life-long learners and thinkers who have the courage to live our beliefs. Our Mission: St Michael s is a school called to serve the families of St Michael s Parish, Traralgon. We are committed to nurturing personal achievement in an environment where relationships are authentic and collaborative NEWSLETTER No. 2 DATE: 12 th February 2019 News from the Principal Firstly, thank you to all those families that have registered for the parent interviews this week. There is still time to do so if you haven t! These are an important way of meeting your child s teacher and being active partners in the education of your child. We welcome your presence at school and hope you will feel comfortable and involved with your child s learning throughout the year. I am sure we will be able to work together to build a positive self-esteem in each child and help them develop as confident learners. Communication is a crucial ingredient in the life of a school community. The school newsletter is a key part of this, as it contains important details about school life and events. As a school we make every effort to ensure all relevant information for families is located in the newsletter, however it is also vital that you as parents read the information so that you are fully informed. We are always open to suggestions as to how we can make it better. The school newsletter is also available on our website http://www.stmtraralgon.catholic.edu.au/and can also be accessed by our St Michael s School App. The Parents and Friends group also share information about what is happening on their Facebook page St Michael s Primary P&F Events Page. Drought assistance payment available - apply now As part of the Victorian Government s drought assistance package, all St Michael s students who reside in the Wellington Shire are eligible for a drought assistance payment through the Camps, Sports and Excursions Fund (CSEF). This includes parents and independent students that do not hold a means-tested concession card. Families who receive the meanstested CSEF payment are also eligible. A 'one off' amount of $375 per student will be paid to the school to be used towards educational expenses for the direct benefit of your child. How to apply? Complete a CSEF drought package application form and return it to the school office. These forms were sent home last week or a hard copy is available at the office. Just a reminder that classes commence at 8:55am and finish at 3:20pm. Students should arrive prior to this, but not before 8:30am. The music starts at 8:52am when any students playing outside return to their classroom. Students will be supervised from 8:30am in the morning and until 3:30pm in the afternoon. On the occasional times that your child is at school before 8:30am or after 3:30pm they will be supervised in the office area. Please be mindful that staff are committed to meetings and planning outside of these hours and this supervision can impact on this work. Kind regards Jodie

Gospel: Lk 5:1-11 This week s gospel tells us how Jesus sent out two of his disciples to go and catch some fish. They had been out all day without success, but when they went out again the next day the net was full of fish. He then sent them out to be fishers of men. Share with your children the ways you try to respond to God's call in your everyday life your caring and service of others, the ways you act with justice and mercy. Talk with them about the daily events of their own lives and help them see how they are already listening to and responding to God's call. If our hearts are ready, God will find us too. CAMPS, SPORTS & EXCURSION FUND (CSEF) School camps provide children with inspiring experiences in the great outdoors, excursions encourage a deeper understanding of how the world works and sports teach teamwork, discipline and leadership. All are part of a healthy curriculum. CSEF will be provided by the Victorian Government to assist eligible families to cover the costs of school trips, camps and sporting activities. If you hold a valid means-tested concession card or are a temporary foster parent, you may be eligible for CSEF. A special consideration category also exists for asylum seeker and refugee families. The allowance is paid to the school to use towards expenses relating to camps, excursions or sporting activities for the benefit of your child. The annual CSEF amount per student is: $125 for primary school students $225 for secondary school students. HOW TO APPLY Contact the school office to obtain a CSEF application form or download from www.education.vic.gov.au/csef Application forms should be completed and lodged with schools by 28 th June 2019. Payments are processed from March.
Road Safety Around Our School School Pedestrian Crossings To promote a safe environment for all parents and children are requested to use the School Pedestrian Crossings or the Intersection Traffic Islands as these are the safest places to cross the road. Parking Restrictions Please obey all parking restrictions (no double parking or parking in driveways & Disabled Parking) and note that there is No Parking in Kay Street beside the Church at the beginning and end of the school day. With the increased volume of traffic that your young child will experience, it is important that children are picked up from a pre-determined position, rather than finding a different position every day.
