PRINCIPAL S REPORT Edition 6-11 th March 2015 I would like to announce to the school community that our Assistant Principal, Kim Bride has been selected as the Principal at Ringwood Heights Primary School. Kim is currently at Ringwood Heights in an acting Principal capacity until the end of this term and her appointment to this new position commences at the beginning of Term Two. This is a wonderful achievement for Kim and she is to be congratulated on this promotion. She has been Assistant Principal at Greythorn for the past five years and in that time has had a significant impact on students, staff and the wider school community. We will greatly miss her leadership, commitment and dedication that she brings to the role, but know that her influence will continue to be felt in our school for years to come. We will arrange a time early next term to formally say farewell to Kim. Information will be provided in next week s Newsletter. We are indeed fortunate to have a huge range of expertise among our staff members. This week I would like to acknowledge Kim Adam and Sarah Tirtilas for their strong leadership of technology, not only on the local level but nationally. Kim and Sarah have been sought out to create and facilitate several two day ipad learning conferences around Australia throughout the year. The first part of their tour commences during week eight and nine of this term visiting Adelaide and Perth. They will share how their students are redefining their learning with ipads at Greythorn Primary School. Kim and Sarah are dedicated to researching and implementing the seamless integration of technology into their teaching and learning practices. They have seen first-hand how this strategy has empowered their students with new and innovative ways to take ownership of their learning, while also producing high levels of learning. They have successfully mentored Greythorn staff and many teachers across Australia. We congratulate and wish Kim and Sarah all the best with their conference engagements. The Year 6 students, teachers and parents travelled to Portsea Camp on Tuesday morning for their, 4 day, 3 night camp. From all reports they are having a terrific time and enjoying the weather and beach environment. We wish Maria K (4R) all the best as she swims at the Regional Swimming Sports this Friday 13 th March. Well done Maria on your successes in swimming this year. The school grounds are in constant need of care and attention. I am sure you are all aware of the Working Bee planned for this Saturday 14 th March. This will be a great opportunity to provide some much needed maintenance to garden beds and surrounding areas. Please try to find an hour or so to come along between 9.00am and noon, meet up with other families and contribute to keeping our grounds in good shape. I would like to sincerely thank Yelka Moloney for undertaking to organise working bees this year. School Council Elections Following our recent call for nominations for School Council, I am pleased to announce our newly appointed School Councillors. Parent Member Category Rob Camm, Karen Teo, Karen Dickson Department of Education and Early Childhood Development Liz Miller, Vicky Poulton As the number of nominations did not exceed the number of vacancies in both categories there will be no need for a ballot. I congratulate these successful candidates and look forward to working with them on School Council.
