Dr. Hobbs congratulated Charles Garrett, Fall Creek School Principal, at Yadkin County s Principal of the Year. He also congratulated Coach Scott Johnson at Starmount High for being selected to coach the East/West All Star Game. Dr. Hobbs stated he had discussed and reviewed the faculty dress code with all principals and asked them to make sure this dress code was being adhered to. Dr. Hobbs also asked for permission to work with Yadtel to televise good things that are happening in our schools and the Board responded that they were in favor of working with Yadtel. Kayla Smith stated that Forbush High School was recently recognized as School of Distinction and that students and staff were proud of this accomplishment. She also stated that several clubs at Forbush are beginning their service projects and that next week is homecoming, spirit week and Bush Bash.

Samuel Stone stated that things were going great at Starmount High School. He also stated they had a great blood drive last week, fundraising had begun with the National Honor Scoeity. Samuel informed the Board that they had a great turnout at homecoming. Rex Baity thanked Ms. Mabe and Forbush Middle School for hosting the Board meeting. He also stated he attended the Regional Board Meeting last Wednesday and that the Board needed to work with the County with regards to budgeting. He also thanked Kevin Matthews and wished them good luck with Hunter Safety. Diane Hampton thanked Ms. Mabe and Forbush Middle School for their hospitality. Joe Dezern thanked Forbush Middle School for their hospitality and that he was also proud of the nice facilities. He thanked the Hunter Safety representatives and stated it was a pleasure to work with people who continue to provide good things to our students. In addition, he stated they had a good regional meeting; however, the concern from the meeting that he has is the emphasis being placed on charter schools. He stated the more charter schools that are built is more money taken from our school system Howard McKnight thanked everyone for being here and Ms. Mabe for hosting the meeting. He stated the Board has had the distinct pleasure of being in several of the schools and it was tremendous to see the achievement these schools have made, and how some are continuing to

strive to go higher. He thanked the administrators for attending the banner presentations and he looked forward to being in the schools next year for more banner presentations. He also thanked the Hunter Safety group for the hard work they are doing for our schools and students. Dr. Hobbs stated there is a big concern with regards charter schools especially with the cap being lifted for the number of these schools. He stated one thing we are seeing is this year nine new charter schools opened and twenty-five have been approved to open next year; however, some of those approved still do not have a building to have school in. Dr. Hobbs also stated that he feels if they receive state money, they should have to follow the same state guidelines as public schools. Joe Dezern stated that if the school system had vacant buildings then the charter schools have access to those buildings. #12-089 On motion by Baity, seconded by Hampton, the Board adjourned at10:20a.m. Adjournment: Dr. L.
