POST-SEASON DUAL TEAM WRESTLING INFORMATION Eight teams will qualify for the state dual team tournament in each of the three classes, 1-A, 2-A, and 3-A. Sixteen Class 1-A and 2-A sectional team champions and sixteen runners-up qualify for eight regional dual team tournaments held the Tuesday before district competition. Each of those regional tournaments is a double dual meet. The teams winning in the first round of the regional double dual will compete immediately in the finals with the winning team qualifying for the state dual team tournament at the U.S. Cellular Center in Cedar Rapids. The beginning weight class in the regional dual team meets shall be determined by a random draw of weight classes. For the Class 1A & 2A regional dual team meets, the finals will begin one weight class beyond the starting weight class of the semifinals. A disk toss will determine which wrestler has the choice of position at the start of the second period and which wrestler is to report to the scorer s table first for each weight class. The Class 3-A schools first level of competition is at the 8 district tournaments. The eight district team champions and eight runners-up qualify for eight regional tournaments held the Tuesday after the State Individual Wrestling Tournament. Each Class 3-A regional tournament is a single dual meet with the winning teams qualifying for the state dual team tournament at the U.S. Cellular Center in Cedar Rapids. SCHEDULE FOR STATE DUAL TEAM TOURNAMENT SERIES Regional Tournaments: Classes 1-A & 2-A Tuesday, February 8, 2011-6 PM Regional Tournaments: Class 3-A Tuesday, February 22, 2011 7 PM State Dual Team Tournament: U.S. Cellular Center, Cedar Rapids - Saturday, February 26, 2011. The following format, schedule and times will be followed for all three classes. The beginning weight class in the state dual team tournament shall be conducted by a random draw of weight classes. The random draw will be the same for all three classes, 1A, 2A, and 3A. Each round will begin one weight class beyond the previous round. ALL matches at the state dual team tournament will be (3) two-minute periods (2-2-2). A disk toss will determine which wrestler has the choice of position at the start of the second period and which wrestler is to report to the scorer s table first for each weight class. 1

CLASS 1-A & 2-A REGIONAL DUAL TEAM TOURNAMENTS The post-season dual team format will be the same as a regular season dual meet. The coach will determine his team members for each level of the (regional/state) tournament. Different wrestlers may wrestle from one level of the tournament to the next. Substitutions are permitted from one meet to the next in the state dual team tournament. ADMISSION Regional Dual Team (All Classes): General Admission $6.00 State Dual Team: General Admission $8.00 COMPLIMENTARY ADMISSIONS TO DUAL TEAM TOURNAMENTS Regional Dual Team Tournaments: 1. These passes are for wrestlers, coaches and managers. Additional team passes may be purchased by the school so the entire VARSITY squad may travel together to the tournament. Use of team passes by other individuals could result in the school forfeiting their expense allowance. 2. Each participating school will also receive 7 cheerleader passes. Six for the cheerleaders and one for the coach/sponsor. AWARDS Regional: The regional team champion will receive 15 medals for their 14 competing wrestlers and head coach, as well a championship banner for the school. Reimbursement for all rounds of dual team competition is based on a traveling party of 24 people. Regional Dual Team: $1.15 per mile, plus $8.00 per member of the traveling party to a maximum of 24 people. State Dual Team: Mileage = $1.15 per mile Travel <150 miles = mileage, plus $10.00 per allotted traveling party Travel >149 miles & NO lodging used = mileage, plus $15.00 per allotted traveling party Travel > 149 miles & lodging USED = mileage, plus $35.00 per allotted traveling party FORFEITS DURING THE STATE DUAL TEAM TOURNAMENT SERIES (REGIONALS AND STATE) While it is not always possible for teams to fill every weight class during the state dual team wrestling tournament series, it is expected teams will not forfeit an excessive number of weight classes, or wrestle JV wrestlers, when they have varsity wrestlers capable of wrestling at those weight classes. The regular varsity wrestlers, including district tournament qualifiers for classes 1A & 2A, are expected to weigh-in and wrestle during the tournament series except in the case of injury, illness, or ineligibility declarations. It is understood, there may be times when wrestlers have weighed in for a particular weight class only to have the coach decide to forfeit certain matches due to injury, illness, or make strategic shifts in their line-up. MEDIA Any bona fide member of the media planning to attend a regional dual team meet should contact the site manager regarding admission. (This does not include a representative of the school paper, yearbook etc.). Any bona fide member of the media planning to attend the State Dual Team Wrestling Tournament should contact the IHSAA Office for credentials. The IHSAA will make arrangements with the U.S. Cellular Center. (This does not include a representative of the school paper, yearbook etc.). RADIO BROADCASTING FOR REGIONAL DUAL TEAM TOURNAMENTS Radio stations must seek permission to broadcast regional dual team wrestling tournaments from the site manager. The radio station, not the tournament manager, is responsible for a telephone line. The IHSAA does not allow any alcohol or tobacco advertising when its events are being broadcast. For information regarding radio broadcasting at the State Dual Team Tournament at the U.S. Cellular Center in Cedar Rapids contact the Iowa High School Athletic Association. 4

TELEVISION BROADCASTING FOR DUAL TEAM TOURNAMENTS As per Board of Control policy for television broadcasting of regional and state dual team wrestling tournaments, there is a $500 fee for broadcasting the tournaments on a 24-hour delay basis, unless the broadcast is by a nonprofit cable TV station. The above policy does not prohibit a 3-minute highlight for television newscasts. PRAYER AT IHSAA-SPONSORED EVENTS IHSAA Board of Control action from February 24, 2001 states, Prayer shall not be permitted at IHSAA-sponsored events in accordance with the Supreme Court ruling on June 17, 2000. (Supreme Court of the United States, Santa Fe Independence School District vs. Jane Doe, #99-62). REGIONAL DUAL TEAM TOURNAMENT MANAGER REPORTS Regional dual team tournament managers will receive information from the IHSAA regarding the reporting of the results and financial reports for their tournaments. TEAM TIES AT REGIONAL AND STATE DUAL TEAM COMPETITION In the event a tie score exists in a dual meet at the regional or state dual team tournament, the criteria found in the NFHS Wrestling Rule Book will be used to break the tie. STATE DUAL TEAM TOURNAMENT INFORMATION The IHSAA will seed all eight (8) teams in each class for the state dual team tournament. The seed formula will be based on the coaches final regular season rankings. If there are unranked team(s) remaining, the team(s) with the highest percentage of regular season dual meet wins (wins divided by the total number of regular season dual meets) will receive the highest seed. If two, or more, teams have the same win/loss percentage, and two of the teams met in head-to-head competition during the regular season, the results of that head-to-head competition will be used for seeding purposes with the winning team receiving the highest seed. If this does not fill the bracket, an alphabetical system will be used in the which school(s) FIRST alphabetically will receive the highest remaining seed(s) in ODD years, and the school(s) LAST alphabetical will receive the high seed(s) in EVEN years. STATE TOURNAMENT PROGRAM INFORMATION The Athletic Association will contact schools qualifying for the State Dual Team Tournament for program information. TICKETS FOR SCHOOLS QUALIFYING FOR THE STATE DUAL TEAM TOURNAMENT The IHSAA will ship state dual team spectator tickets to all regional dual team champions so they can sell tickets in advance. Tickets will also be sold at the US Cellular Center the day of the tournament. 5

WEIGH-INS For all regional dual team meets, weigh-ins will be conducted at the site one hour before competition is scheduled to begin, as per national rule. The only scale allowance given for regional and state dual team wrestling is the 2-pound scale allowance. FOR THE STATE DUAL TEAM TOURNAMENT, WEIGH INS WILL BE CONDUCTED AT 9:00AM. Detailed information with reference to the weigh-in procedures for the state dual team tournament will be mailed to the qualifying schools prior to the state dual team tournament. All schools must present the proper NWCA weigh-in forms at the time of weighin, listing the wrestlers who may compete at the Regional and State Dual Team Wrestling Tournament. Meet management will keep the original forms and make copies for coaches and table workers. 6
