About the college The college was founded in 1952, affiliated to the University of Travancore and then to the University of Kerala. Now it stands affiliated to Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam. We have the motto Fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom with a vision To create an educated and enlightened society, for a brave new world. The college has been reaccredited with A grade (CGPA 3.60) by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC). The college offers 14 PG Programmes, 13 UG Programmes and 5 self financing courses including M.Phil Programme in Zoology. The details regarding the course and other infrastructural facilities available in the college is also furnished here below for your ready reference. UG & PG COURSES OFFERED UNDER CBCSS OF MG UNIVERSITY, KOTTAYAM 1. Features of the Courses * Semester system * Choice based credit and semester system * A combination of internal and external evaluation Grading 2. The three year undergraduate programme is divided into six semesters, each semester consisting of a minimum of 90 working days, inclusive of examinations, distributed over 18 five day academic weeks. The duration of the odd semesters will be from June to October and even semesters from November to March. There will be no break after semesters and the April-May summer vacation pattern will prevail. The time table shall be set according to the day order system to provide proper distribution of working days for all courses. There will be a common calendar giving schedule of admission, classes, internal and external examinations, evaluation and publication of results. The two year PG Programme is in four semesters. 3. The structure of the semester courses shall be as follows: Common Courses : which will include compulsory courses in English and additional languages (Malayalam, Hindi & Syriac) and general courses, a selection of which should be common to all programmes irrespective of the subject of specialization. Core Courses : Including methodology courses and courses on the subject of specialization, one elective and one project which will be compulsory for all students doing a particular programme. Complementary Courses : Which include courses the study of which would complement the study of the subject of specialization, which shall be compulsory for all students doing a particular programme. Open Courses : Which include all courses other than courses in the area of specialization of the student concerned, the choice of which will be decided by preferences of students and availability of teachers. 4. UGC Career-Oriented Courses (Add-on Courses) UGC has sanctioned the following skill oriented and value added add-on courses to this college to be opted by students as a parallel sub discipline while pursuing their degree level education. At the end of three years, the students will be equipped with a Certification (1 st Year- 30 credits)/diploma (2 nd year-60 credits) and Advanced Diploma (3 rd year-90 credits) along with the conventional degree in Science/Arts/Commerce. GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS 1. Candidates who seek admission in Community, Management, Sports, Cultural and Physically handicapped quota should send their applications to the Principal in the prescribed form which can be obtained from the College Office on payment of Rs. 50/- (Rs. 55/- if to be sent by post) 2. The duly filled in application should reach the College Office within the stipulated time. 3. Interview cards will be sent to the applicants on the basis of their merit Index. Three six rupee stamps (3x6) should be submitted separately along with the filled in application form. 4. Applicants provisionally selected will be required to appear for an interview, at the Principal s office. Final selection will be made only after the interview. 5. At the time of the interview the applicants must be accompanied by his/her guardian. 6. The applicant must produce the under mentioned documents at the time of the interview. (a) Interview card (b) Transfer Certificate (c) Character Certificate from the Head of institution last attended (d) Pass Certificate of the qualifying examination. Students who have passed from College/Institution affiliated to Universities other than Mahatma Gandhi University should produce the Migration Certificate in addition to the Pass Certificate. They should also pay a sum of Rs. 100/- towards Matriculation fee and fee for recognition of their examination by the Mahatma Gandhi University, (e) SSLC/SSC Certification (f) Community Certificate (g) Income Certificate (h) Other Relevant Certificates if any (i) Four stamp size photographs. Students belonging to scheduled castes, scheduled tribes and converts should produce community certificate from the Village Officer. Students belonging to other backward communities and forward community (KPCR) should produce community and income certificates from the Village Officer in the prescribed form. If they produce the community and income certificate at the time of admission, they will be exempted from payment of tuition fee and special fees. Such certificates should be produced at the beginning of every academic year if the concession is to be renewed. Students eligible for fee concession should submit application to the Principal in the prescribed form available in the College Office within 5 days of their admission to the College. Such application should be submitted at the beginning of every subsequent academic year for renewing the concession. INCOME LIMIT FOR OBC/FC B.A/B.Sc Below 100000/- M.A/M.Sc / M.Com Below 100000/- Note: All those who wish to apply for any concession or scholarship or stipend should keep with them an attested copy of the SSLC Book showing the date of birth and the caste certificate before submitting the same at the time of admission. 7. Students are advised to keep with them for their own use attested copies of the certificates handed over to the College. 8. Students belonging to backward communities and scheduled castes or tribes who are admitted to the College should obtain the form of application for fee concession from College Office and return them duly filled in. Failure to do so will make them lose their chance of getting fee concession, stipends etc. 9. Selected candidates should pay the fees immediately, failing which they will forfeit their claim of admission. 10. The Principal reserves the right to refuse admission to any application without assigning any reason. 5

In the case of a student who is admitted late after the commencement of the academic year should pay the fees for the preceeding semesters if any which is collected at the time of admission. Note: Every student is liable to pay the prescribed fee for the whole term during any part of which his/her name is on the rolls of the college. 4. Students leaving the college after enrolment will have to pay the fee for the whole terms. 5. The student should keep the fee receipts issued from the college and should produce them for verification, if so required from the college. Caution Deposit of students will be refunded only after surrendering the original receipt of the remittance. Management Quota For admission to the Management quota students will have to submit applications in the prescribed form (the form can be obtained from the Manager s Office) within seven days of the last date for submission of applications in the college office. Admission to Hostels Accommodation is provided for men students in the E. John Philipose Memorial Hostel and girl students in the Daniel Mar Philoxenos Angelines Hostel. Students seeking admission to the Hostel should apply to the Principal in the prescribed form which can be had from the College office on payment of Rs. 100/- Students whose conduct is unsatisfactory will not be admitted to the Hostels. Mess charges are levied on a monthly dividing system. Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) A study centre of IGNOU is functions in the College Campus. IGNOU aims to train people in various disciplines to develop their skills in different jobs. There are both short-term and long-term programmes at the post graduate and under graduate levels. Catholicate Institute of Computer Studies (CICS) The Computer study centre in the campus conducts short term courses for degree and post graduate students. Students of this College can join these courses at a concessional fees for PGDCS, APGDCA, PGDCA courses.

The Hon ble Supreme Court of India, the Central and State Governments, the UGC and the Mahatma Gandhi University have issued clear guidelines and instructions to ensure that no incident of ragging takes place in the colleges, hostels, canteens, transportations and such other places associated with the college.
