JOB DESCRIPTION and PERSON SPECIFICATION APPRENTICE (Marketing and Admissions) Section: Marketing & Admissions Department Annual Leave: 28 days per annum Responsible to: Marketing Manager Hours of Work: 35 hours per week Status of position: Fixed-term approximately 18 months Salary Range: See section 6 1. INTRODUCTION Shrewsbury School is an independent Boarding School, committed to the highest standards of education. The School is a registered charity with a number of wholly owned trading companies. The School is governed by a Governing Body, which has approximately 19 members. The Governing Body and its Committees meet once a term. On occasions there are ad hoc committees to oversee the planning and execution of particular projects. The Bursar is responsible to the Headmaster and the Governing Body for the overall financial management of the School and its resources in order that the School s objectives can be met. The School has approximately 420 employees and an annual turnover of over 23 million. The Bursar is supported by a Heads of Department team, which includes the Head of Human Resources, Financial Controller, Head of Estates, Director of IT and the General Services Manager. Admissions & Marketing Department The Admissions & Marketing Department is responsible for recruiting approximately 220 new pupils into the school each year as well as promoting and marketing the school to a wide range of constituents. The Director of Admissions is in charge of the department, and two other teaching staff act as Admissions Tutors. The Admissions Manager oversees the routine running of the Admissions Office. The Marketing Manager is in charge of the school s marketing on a day to day basis, and will work closely alongside the Website and PR Manager. There are two further administrative assistants in the Admissions & Marketing Department. 2. MAIN PURPOSE OF ROLE The Apprentice (Marketing & Admissions) will in the first instance provide administrative assistance to the Marketing Manager. The post holder will be part of the wider Admissions & Marketing team, and may also provide support to members of the Admissions department. 3. LEVEL OF POSITION The Post holder will report directly to the Marketing Manager who is responsible for day-to-day Line Management including annual reviews, training and development and health and safety. 4. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES The duties and responsibilities below are illustrative. The position holder will be expected to become involved in a range of work on occasions that may not be shown below: Assisting the Marketing Manager in preparation for Open Days and Feeder School events. This will include compiling attendance lists, preparing name badges, setting up marketing display materials, collating promotional goods for visitors to take away with them. Assisting the Marketing Manager during Open Days and Feeder School events, to include welcoming visitors and ensuring the smooth running of the event. Assisting the Marketing Manager and Admissions Manager with large-scale mailings, including mail-merges. Assisting the Marketing Manager and Admissions Manager with routine filing and other office tasks, including the maintenance of spreadsheets. Providing administrative support to all members of the Marketing & Admissions department as required. 5. TERMS AND CONDITIONS SALARY: The salary will be based on the National Minimum Wage for apprenticeships. HOURS: The Apprentice position is a full-time role working during term-time and during school holidays. Normal office hours are 09:00 hours to 17:00 hours, Monday to Friday, with a lunch break of one hour each day. Shrewsbury School is a boarding school and therefore operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week during term-time. Flexibility will be needed / expected to meet the demands of the School. HOLIDAYS: The Apprentice will be entitled to 28 days holiday per annum plus Statutory Bank Holidays. (Please note that it will be necessary to work on Public Holidays which fall within term-time). SICKNESS: The Apprentice will be entitled to 6 weeks at full pay, followed by 6 weeks at half pay after 6 months of continued service. PENSION: All support employees are eligible to join Shrewsbury School s Pension Scheme (employee 3-5%, employer 4.5-7.5%).
