Please be sure to mark your calendars accordingly. 2016-2017 PTO Officers Kylie Clarke John Miller Dianne Jelinek Megan McDonald Debbie Floyd From the Principal We have reached that point in the school year where we celebrate Catholic Schools Week! In this week s Tuesday Envelope we distributed a flyer listing the activities for this special week, which is also listed below for your convenience. Did you know that if all Catholic school students enrolled at the local public school, it would cost : State government: $39,992,362 Federal government: $9,215,232 Local government: $48,012,946 TOTAL: $97,220,540 This is an important figure used to lobby for school choice so that more children can attend the school of their choice. Think about taking the time to write a letter to your legislator about the need to support Catholic Schools. If you are interested, I can provide this information to you. I also wanted to take a moment to ask our parent s to continue to help and support us in an important matter. We take pride in how our students look. Their uniform represents that they are a member of our school family. It is very important that the complete uniform with the correct components are worn each day. Teachers are taking notice and will be issuing Pink Slips for incorrect items such as missing belts, no-show socks, skirts being too short, wrong shirts, missing ties, etc. Please support us and help your child come to school with all the correct components of our uniform. Volume 8, Issue 19 Page 2 Almighty Father, You sent forth your Son as a beacon of hope for all people. As Teacher, he has given us the prime example of the importance of education. As disciples, we look to him for inspiration and strength. Thank you for the many sisters, brothers, priests, and laypeople who have dedicated their lives in service to our Catholic schools. Thank you for the teachers and administrators who sustain our schools today. Thank you for the parents who have given support and witness to the importance of Catholic education in their daily lives. Thank you for the students who work hard to further their education. Bless St. Michael Catholic School and the many people who advance our mission. May our building be a home for those who seek to grow in faith, knowledge, and service of others. May our community always support one another and exhibit hospitality to newcomers. Fill our minds with knowledge and wisdom. May our understanding of the world help us to grow in appreciation for it. Fill our hearts with gladness. May we always turn to you in times of need. Fill our hands with the tools we need to serve others. May we show them your unceasing love through our actions. St. Elizabeth Ann Seton, pray for us. St. John Neumann, pray for us. St. Michael, pray for us. Amen Our faculty and staff have been working very hard on planning fun and exciting activities for St. Michael Catholic School to participate in during Catholic Schools Week. Each day of the week starting Sunday, January 29, 2017 we will celebrate Catholic Schools Week highlighting various members of our St. Michael Catholic School Community. Traditionally in years past, the school has not participated in Saturday s theme which is Celebrating Families. This year we would like to change that. The faculty has proposed that we host a family potluck in the Duffy Center on Saturday, February 4, 2017. Prior to our family celebration, we ask that all families join us at the 6PM Mass at St. Michael Catholic Church, where we will all receive a special blessing from Father Greg. In order for this to be a success we need one very important piece, YOU! The faculty and staff are really looking forward to hosting this event, so please consider attending. All family members would be welcome to participate, including those that are too young/too old to attend St. Michael Catholic School. If you would be interested in attending, it would be greatly appreciated if you could RSVP using the link below: http://evite.me/jguf5jfrkg

Page 3. THANK YOU!!!!! On behalf of the students, faculty, staff, PTO, and co-chairs Mark and Cathy Simmons, thank you for your help and support with this year s soup bowl fundraiser. The family s did a wonderful job with our soda drive as well as all of the baked goods for our bake sale. Additionally, a BIG thank you goes to all of those individuals that solicited for soups, followed up on the donations, and picked up the soups. For those who came in to help deliver lunch to the classrooms, you made it a seamless operation so thank you to those volunteers and Mrs. JoAnn and Ms. Vivian. Thank you also to all the volunteers who worked in the kitchen, served soups, served as runners from the kitchen, helped to set up and clean up and of course purchased tickets and attended. A special thank you goes to Roy Burton, Nancy Mahoney, Monica Raynor, Kylie Clarke, Megan McDonald for the never ending help and support. Our biggest thank you goes to Mark and Cathy Simmons who served once again as our co-chairs; congratulations on a job well done! While we are still awaiting some final expenses, we took in approximately $7,100, which is very close to last year s amount! Thank you again!! Knights of Columbus Free Throw Competition Winners!
