Students completing 8 th Grade Mathematics are ready to move on to High School Algebra I. Course Title: 8 th Grade Algebra I for High School Credit - Honors Prerequisite: 8 th Grade Math, 8 th Grade Honors Math, or 7/8 Accelerated Math with B s each Quarter This is a yearlong Algebra I course for students who completed either 8 th Grade Math, 8 th Grade Honors Math or 7/8 Accelerated Math with success and who have demonstrated above-average mathematical ability, aptitude, and learning attitudes. High School honors credit is earned for this course and grades are included in the student s high school grade point average. Prerequisites for success include mastery of the basic skills of fraction operations, ratios, equation and problem solving, percent/decimals, and proportions. The curriculum is designed to address all Algebra I Ohio New Learning Standards. For 7/8 Accelerated Math students, the course addresses all of the remaining 8 th Grade New Learning Standards not addressed in 7/8 Accelerated Math as well. Topics include graphing and solving linear, exponential, and quadratic functions, problem solving, factoring, solving systems of equations and inequalities, and radicals.
