Glendal Community News SRC Update: Harmony Day 21 st March 2019 4
A word from a parent helper At Glendal, so many people come together with the common goal of teaching our children to be the best that they can be and helping them to become the adults of the future. We obviously have the benefit of a wonderful staff of professional educators, administrative staff and the team that maintain the grounds but there is another team that help support many of the activities in the school and I am very proud to be a part of that team. My name is Maxine and I am just one of the team of parent helpers here at Glendal. I have had two children at Glendal and this will be my last year at this school. I am happy to say though that I am going to have amazing memories this year after offering to help coach some of the children in softball for interschool sports. Initially, I saw that there was an opportunity to help share my knowledge of a sport that I loved as a child and young adult. I offered my services and started taking some of the children through various practice sessions during their lunch breaks. What was a complete surprise to me was not only the flood of memories and enjoyment that came back as I took the kids through the disciplines of softball, but the enjoyment and enthusiasm that became all too apparent with the kids. In the beginning I thought I would show the kids a few skills and that would be that. In the end, we came together as an incredibly capable team of players with the primary goal of just having fun. I loved seeing the fun the kids were having and the dedication they had to joining in. I was so proud of all the kids, their achievements, and especially my team, Team B or Glendal Diamonds, who won all of their games undefeated. If you have any spare time that you can dedicate to our kids school, I highly encourage you to join in as a parent helper. The kids love having us there and I know from my own kids reactions that they love having me be a part of their schooling in this way. For me, I know that this year I have shared with our kids the love of a game that I played myself at school and many of them are keen to continue. If you can help out, please do. You never know what memories you will be creating for the ones we love the most. Maxine 5
