The clean blanket of snow created a wonderful setting for the Holy Season. I pray that you had time to rest, reflect, and enjoy family and friends. Our teachers returned from the break well-rested and ready to start the New Year. We have had a very busy week (catching up on a few things that were cancelled due to the two snow days), and starting new activities. I know that some of the students are still a little groggy, due to the change from the relaxed Christmas schedule to our normal school schedule. We hope that everyone will be back on track next week, as we work to make 2010 a wonderful year! Please read the entire edition of this week s Thursday s Notes as there are several important announcements and pertinent information, including details about tonight s Open House at St. Joseph s Catholic School. Please join me in praying for continued blessings for our school, parish, students and teachers! In His service, Tiffani James

St. Joseph s Open House I hope you will be able to attend St. Joseph s Open House this evening at 7:00 pm. The teachers will be giving grade-level presentations regarding curriculum and activities. Please arrive on time so that you may visit several classrooms to hear the presentations. If you have any questions, please call Andrew Currier at 301-937-7154 or email principal@stjos.org Greenbelt Library Closed for Renovations The Greenbelt Branch of the Prince Georges County Public Library System will be closed for the next five months, beginning January 15, 2010 and ending on June 15, 2010. The library will undergo renovations and will not be able to serve our students until it reopens in June. Students who walk to the library after school will need alternative after-school plans. During these cold winter months it is not advisable for students to sit outside to wait for after school transportation. Please contact the school if you need to register your child for aftercare. Winter Weather and Recess For most of the week, our students have been playing indoors (in the gym) during recess due to extremely cold temperatures. We usually keep students in if the temperature is below 32 degrees or if there are extreme winds that make for dangerous conditions or significant wind chill. However, the teachers (particularly those in our primary grades) would like to offer their classes opportunities to have 5-10 minutes of outdoor time later in the afternoon if the temperature warms above 32 degrees and the children are appropriately dressed for the weather. Please assume that your child will have some outdoor time each day and be sure to send him/her to school dressed for the weather. Students should wear coats and may also need mittens, gloves, scarves, or hats. Girls may also wear their PE uniform sweatpants under their skirts during outdoor playtime. We appreciate your cooperation as we work to make these cold winter months safe and fun for your children. Weather Related School Closing and Delays St. Hugh s follows the policies of the Prince George s County public school system regarding school closing, late openings, or early dismissal due to inclement weather or emergencies. If PGCPS are closed, St. Hugh's School is closed.
