KU Dean of Engineering Position Description The University of Kansas is seeking candidates for the position of Dean of the School of Engineering. The successful candidate will bring visionary leadership that guides faculty, students and staff into the school s next phase of extraordinary achievement. The dean serves as chief academic and administrative officer of the School of Engineering and is responsible for providing imaginative, effective, dynamic, and transformational leadership to ensure the school s long-term success. the school that also includes record high numbers of women and under-represented minority students. School of Engineering undergraduate students arrive at KU with the highest average ACT and math ACT scores of any school in the state. Since 2012 the school has seen a 29% increase in bachelor s degrees awarded and 15% increase in graduate degrees awarded. The school has the highest percentage of women engineering students and the highest percentage of women earning degrees of any program in Kansas. During the past six years, the School of Engineering has secured a 28% net increase of tenure and tenure-track faculty positions. Transformative Growth It is a time of remarkable transformation for the KU School of Engineering. Since 2012, the school has dramatically expanded its facilities adding five new buildings and 325,000 square feet of world-class research labs, stateof-the-art classrooms and enhanced collaboration spaces. Job Duties/Responsibilities The dean serves as chief academic and administrative officer of the School of Engineering and is responsible for providing imaginative, effective, dynamic, and transformational leadership to ensure the school s long term success. The dean s responsibilities include the following: Providing visionary leadership in encouraging and rewarding faculty excellence in research, teaching, and engagement; Fostering academic excellence in established courses and programs as well as in emerging programs focused on KU s strategic initiatives; Enhancing visibility, status and reputation of the School of Engineering locally, nationally, and internationally, assuring sustained funding for groundbreaking research; Maintaining accreditation, ensuring all requirements are being met by each department and program within the School; Exploring innovative approaches to enhance the educational experience of students; Creating and maintaining a learning community in which the School s students acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to become successful in professional life and a multicultural world; Providing leadership and collaborating with others to advance diversity, equity, and inclusion within the School; Enthusiastically soliciting and securing financial support for the School, from both public and private sources, in partnership with the KU Endowment Association; Energizing alumni and others in the wider KU community to continue providing support both financial and otherwise to build the excellence of the School; Ensuring that the School maintains and benefits from close contact with industry and the professional

Required Qualifications 1. A doctorate in engineering or a closelyrelated field and significant leadership experience; 2. Experience and accomplishments warranting appointment as a tenured full professor; 3. Prior administrative experience or a demonstrated capacity for leadership. Preferred Qualifications 1.
