Newsletter and Parliamentarian - Judy James-judy@judyjames. com A Message from the President Sharena Gilliland We officially have a Presidential nominee! Donald Trump is the Republican nominee for President and Mike Pence is the nominee for Vice President. As Republicans, we are excited and ready to support our ticket! Like many election cycles in recent years, this will likely be a close election. It's important that we encourage our friends and family to turn out and vote in November. We have many issues facing our nation: national security, the economy, healthcare, individual freedoms. The Republican Party has the best solutions for the problems we face. Not voting for the Trump-Pence ticket is essentially affirming another 4 years of the same Obama administration. We already know there is a vacancy on the Supreme Court and there will likely be more in the coming years. It's imperative that a Republican President mke those appointments. So it's time to get involved! Of course you can talk with your friends and family about why you are voting Republican. But you can do more! You can join with the Mighty Texas Strikeforce and help campaign in Texas or other states. You can even stay at home and help to make phone calls. In Parker County, we need volunteers to work at our Republican headquarters. You can be trained at the Elections Office and then help to register voters. It's an exciting time to be involved in the Republican Party! Let's all work together so we can celebrate a Republican victory in November! Republican women can get it done! Sharena Gilliland BLRWW President 2016

Thursday, August 18th meeting of Bush Legacy Republican Women 11:30-1:00, Doss Heritage and Culture Center, Weatherford Our August speaker will be John and Julie Park and Corporal Max N242. Corporal Max N242 is a bomb-sniffing Labrador Retriever who was deployed five times to Afghanistan and Iraq. He located more than 50 bombs during his last year oversees and is credited with saving the lives of countless Marines. Many IED detection dogs are trained at Lackland Air Force Base. Puppies are chosen based on their strength, intelligence, perseverance, and strong urge to perform for a reward. Besides basic obedience commands, these dogs are taught to detect nine different odors in explosives. They also have to learn to tolerate a gas mask, ride in military transportation and become acclimated to gunfire. Corporal Max N242 lives at the home of John and Julia Park. Their son, Marine Capt. Jeffrey Park, adopted the dog once Max s days of service were completed but is still on active duty overseas. John Park is an advocate of these service dogs and is also a supporter of the Military Working Dog Retirement Act of 2015 that would recognize these military dogs as personnel and not equipment.

REMINDERS The deadline for our luncheon reservations is noon Tuesday, August 17. The hospitality chairman turns in the number of meals to our caterer that day. The menu will be Summer type salads plus desserts made by one of our fabulous members. Contact Elane by any of the following ways: elane.hardaway@sbcglobal. or call/text: 817-597-4634 for your reservation. Be sure to invite a friend! Remember a reservation made is a reservation paid. If for some reason you can not cancel by the deadline time, Elane will be sending you a "gentle" reminder about the amount owed. Not only does your $15 go toward paying for your meal but also our use of the Doss Heritage Center. The Red Boot Soiree is just around the corner. October 8th will be here before you know it. Please make sure you mark your calendars for this evening of great food and entertainment by Miss Devon and the Outlaw. Volunteer opportunities! ELECTION 2016 WHAT CAN I DO? Now that the convention is over and we officially have a nominee for President and Vice- President, we all need to help elect our nominee to further our Republican values. Have you asked yourself What can I do? As the old saying goes, "We can't do everything, but we can do something." What is right for you? Some of the possibilities will be in this section from now until Election Day. Please find an activity that fits your talents, abilities, and availabilities. We don't want to awake on the morning of November 9 and wish we had done more! Be informed. Know the important points in this election Volunteer at the Republican Headquarters Talk to your friends locally, statewide, out of state Become a Deputy Voter Registrar. This is done at our County Elections Office Be sure that all of those around you are registered to vote. Carefully select your news source and weigh it against the truth Block walk with friends Make calls from your home Go on a strike force Volunteer to work the "Get Out the Vote" events Stay positive and avoid the negative.
