Visitors Welcome. RSL, Thompson Ave, Cowes. President s Report It was a really good night celebrating Cup Eve, great company including wives, two from Innerwheel and our regular visiting Rotarian John O Rielly. It does a club good to have a relaxing night occasionally and that we did. My thanks to Max and Gloria once again for their help with the sweeps and to Rob and his staff for their excellent service and food. Life Reflections from the President of Endeavour Hills On the first day, God created the dog and said, "Sit all day by the door of your house and bark at anyone who comes in or walks past. For this, I will give you a life span of twenty years." The dog said, "That's a long time to be barking. How about only ten years and I'll give you back the other ten?" So God agreed... On the second day, God created the monkey and said, "Entertain people, do tricks, and make them laugh. For this, I'll give you a twenty-year life span." The monkey said, "Monkey tricks for twenty years? That's a pretty long time to perform. How about I give you back ten like the dog did?" And God agreed... On the third day, God created the cow and said, "You must go into the field with the farmer all day long and suffer under the sun, have calves and give milk to support the farmer's family. For this, I will give you a life span of sixty years." The cow said, "That's kind of a tough life you want me to live for sixty years. How about twenty and I'll give back the other forty?" And God agreed again... On the fourth day, God created humans and said, "Eat, sleep, play, marry and enjoy your life. For this, I'll give you twenty years." But the human said, "Only twenty years? Could you possibly give me my twenty, the forty the cow gave back, the ten the monkey gave back, and the ten the dog gave back; that makes eighty, okay?" "Okay," said God. "You asked for it." So that is why for our first twenty years, we eat, sleep, play and enjoy ourselves. For the next forty years, we slave in the sun to support our family. For the next ten years, we do monkey tricks to entertain the grandchildren. And for the last ten years, we sit on the front porch and bark at everyone. Life has now been explained to you: At what stage are we today? Correspondence from the Website Dear Rotary Club of Phillip Island & San Remo, My name is Kimberley Konisberry. Although I have not met with your club formally, I have met with the previous host parents of Joel Riskumaki - my later host brother in Finland. Since my 2011 exchange to Finland, and the Rotary Club of Jalasjarvi, I have come a long way. I am now in my final year in my Bachelor of Arts: International Studies; volunteer with AMES; and have recently obtained an internship with Free to Shine. Free to Shine is an organisation that seeks to keep young, Cambodian girls at risk of being recruited for sex work, at school and away from harm's grasp. As is such, they work to pair sponsors with girls in order to supply the girl with the means to remain at school. At the moment, Free to Shine is on the look out for more sponsors to help the 300 girls they recently accepted into their scholarship program. As an intern, it is my job to help brainstorm of how we can find sponsors for these girls. As an ex- rotary exchange student, I naturally thought of Rotary - an organisation which strives to improve the lives of not only those within their community - but around the world. What I am emailing you for, is to enquire whether it is possible for your Rotary club to allow Free to Shine the opportunity to speak at one of your weekly meetings. This would be great to create awareness about sex trafficking, and to also introduce Free to Shine as an existing organisation set up to face this issue. I have linked you the website if you are interested in finding out more. I understand if you feel it is not a good idea, or are simply too busy seeing as Christmas is fast approaching. Thank you for your time, and I hope that you are all well. Regards, Kimberley Konisberry https://www.freetoshine.org/

Please Contact Ted Jeffery 0417 566 322 Everybody, Somebody, Anybody, Nobody This is a story of four members; Everybody, Somebody, Anybody, and Nobody. There was an important job to be done. Everybody was sure that Somebody would do it. Anybody could have done it, but Nobody did it. Somebody got angry about that because it was Everybody s job. Everybody thought Anybody could do it. Nobody realised that s Everybody s job. Everybody wouldn t do it. It ended up that Everybody blamed Somebody when Nobody did what Anybody could have done. Corporate or Business Membership Corporate or Business Membership is being trialed by clubs who choose to be part of the pilot worldwide. While not a formal type of membership yet, the Rotary Club of Warragul believes corporate (or business) membership offers the opportunity to broaden the understanding of Rotary with local businesses and potentially to increase club membership. - See more at: http://portal.clubrunner.ca/50070/stori es/corporate- or- business- membership- of- rotary You may have noticed, we need more members to support our Club become more productive and effective in the work of Rotary. Please set yourself a goal of identifying a potential member and inviting them to a meeting this year. And further, joining (or re-joining) a member before 30 June 2016.
