Access to industry-standard facilities and resources During your time in Sheffield you will gain access to all of the facilities and resources available to Sheffield Hallam students. is located in a new, 27 million Heart of the Campus building, which opened in September 2014 and was designed to house our specialist teaching and research facilities which include an observation suite, an eye-tracking laboratory, a BioPac laboratory, a low-level vision laboratory, a food laboratory and electroencephalography (EEG) equipment. The University has a learning centre at each campus which is open 24 hours, 365 days a year. The learning centre has more than 1,000 computers and access to more than 500,000 books and 4 million journal articles. Among the library resources are an extensive range of psychology book and ebooks, journals. The psychology department also provides a technical resources facility where students can borrow technical equipment, such as AV recording devices, or specialist equipment needed for psychological study, such as CANTAB and other psychological testing inventories and questionnaires. Innovative teaching and assessment Our innovative teaching, learning and assessment techniques will help you develop your communication, organisation, presentation, time management and group work skills which are required in the workplace. The course uses a mix of traditional and innovative teaching methods which include laboratory work, workshops, lectures, and seminars which will help you prepare for your assessments. During these sessions you will put your learning into practice by taking part in activities such as group discussions, presentations, examinations of case studies and psychological experiments. The type of assessments you will undertake will vary by module and could include coursework, research projects, oral presentations, timed examinations, online assessments and laboratory or professional reports Throughout your studies you will have access to a dedicated virtual learning environment which has been ranked in the top three in the world (Student Barometer, autumn 2013). You will be able to access student support material and information relating to each module studied and communicate with your tutor and other members of your course. In addition to this, you will have continued access to drop-in study sessions and one-to-one help with essay writing as well as English language support. You will be supported throughout your dual degree by a number of staff, both at TAR UC and Sheffield Hallam. You will be able to contact them any time with any queries you have. The Student Services team They will provide you with advice and support on a wide range of issues such as University rules and regulations, helping you to plan and manage your workload and any personal worries. Dual award degree structure TAR UC and Sheffield Hallam have designed the dual award degree to ensure all the modules provide the content required to successfully complete the assignments and dual award. You will study both TAR UC and Sheffield Hallam modules. This will not extend the duration of your course. Sheffield Hallam modules will be delivered at TAR UC and in your final year you will attend a three month study period in Sheffield. Here is an overview of the course structure. You will learn to formulate research questions, using this knowledge of methods and design. The contents of this module maps onto the BPS core curriculum area of Research Methods. You will learn how psychological theory and research are applied in forensic settings. The application of forensic psychology and practice is compared across different countries, providing an international perspective on the discipline. You will gain a comprehensive introduction to the field of psychological measurement and will explore how various psychological attributes and competences are assessed. You will be required to formulate the first stages of their own research project and teaching on psychometrics will feed into the design of this. You will be introduced to the fundamental concepts the fields of biopsychology, neuropsychology and cognitive neuroscience. You will explore the intimate links between brain physiology and behaviour, looking at both clinical and research techniques. You will gain insight in how psychologists research and measure this relationship through practical lab based workshops using eye tracking and physiological measure and/or cognitive testing batteries. You will have the opportunity to enhance your knowledge of atypical development in children, with particular focus on the causal mechanisms and intervention approaches involved. You will explore how (1) negative experiences can impact on development, resulting in disorders of childhood and adolescence and (2) disorders with a genetic and biological basis impact on psychological development.
