PUBLIC COMMENTS Because the Board desires to hear the viewpoints of citizens throughout the District, as well as conduct its business in an orderly and efficient manner, it will schedule a period during business meetings for brief comments from the public. The Board may set a time limit on the length of this period and/or for individual speakers. Speakers will be allowed two minutes for their comments. The time limit is meant to ensure that everyone has a chance to speak. Public comments are not meant to be a dialogue, rather a time for the board to hear comments from the public. 5. BOARD COMMUNICATIONS Tax Levy Discussion 6.1 Request for Approval to Set the Tax Levy Recommendation that the following resolution be approved: BE IT RESOLVED, that the Board of Education of the New Paltz Central School District, upon the recommendation of Maria C. Rice, Superintendent of Schools, does hereby establish the 2017-18 school property tax levy at $41,060,000, and the Gardiner Library property tax levy at $8,000, acknowledge the related tax rates, and sign the attached tax warrant to be delivered to the tax collector with an effective date of September 1, 2017. 7. MINUTES OF MEETING Recommendation - that the New Paltz Central Schools Board of Education accept the minutes of the Special Meeting of August 1, 2017 and the regular Business Meeting of August 8, 2017. 8. PERSONNEL (CONSENT AGENDA) 9.1 Corrective Action-Instructional Appointment Probationary period effective dates in Personnel Item 7.13 approved on August 8, 2017 as follows: BE IT RESOLVED, that upon recommendation of Maria C. Rice, Superintendent of Schools, the Board of Education appoints Kelsey Rice to a four (4) year probationary appointment as a Special Education Teacher in the tenure area of Special Education at an annual salary of $63,900 (MA Step 2), effective 8/22/2017 through 8/21/2021, subject to receipt of composite or overall annual professional performance review ratings pursuant to Education Law Section 3012-c and/or 3012-d of either effective or highly effective in at least three (3) of the four (4) preceding years, and if the probationer receives an ineffective composite in the final year of the probationary period he or she shall not be eligible for tenure at that time. 9.2 Corrective Action-Instructional Appointment Probationary period effective dates in Personnel Item 7.17 approved on August 8, 2017 as follows: BE IT RESOLVED, that upon recommendation of Maria C. Rice, Superintendent of Schools, the Board of Education appoints Felisa Sheskin to a four (4) year probationary appointment as a Spanish Teacher in the tenure area of Foreign Language at an annual salary of $70,590 (MA Step 6), effective 9/1/2017 through 8/31/2021, subject to receipt of composite or overall annual professional performance review ratings pursuant to Education Law Section 3012-c and/or 3012-d of either effective or highly effective in at least three (3) of the four (4) preceding years, and if the probationer receives an ineffective composite in the final year of the probationary period he or she shall not be eligible for tenure at that time.
