Regular Meeting Board of Education Wallkill Senior High School Library/Media Center Thursday, August 26, 2010 7:00 p.m. 1. Call to Order/Pledge of Allegiance - Agenda #1 At 7:00 p.m. the meeting was called to order by President Tina Williams, in the Wallkill Senior High School Library/Media Center. Members Present Mrs. Anderson Mr. LoCicero Mr. McCarl Mr. O Mara Mr. Petroccelli Mrs. Taylor Mrs. Williams Members Absent Mrs. Crowley Mr. Frisbie Also present were Superintendent Hecht, Assistant Superintendent Castle and Administrator Pietrogallo. 2. Approve Minutes - [7/29/10 Special Board of Education Meeting] - Agenda # 2 Mr. O Mara moved the Board accept the recommendation of the Superintendent and approve the minutes of the July 29, 2010, Special Board of Education Meeting. Motion seconded by Mr. McCarl and carried 7-0. 3. Board Committee Reports/Assignments 2010-2011 - Agenda #3 Audit Committee: The Audit Committee met on July 29, 2010, to meet with the Internal Auditor to review the Testing and Evaluation Risk Report. In addition, the District will be submitting an RFP on September 29, 2010, for Internal Audit Services for the 2010-2011 school year. Budget Committee: The tax rate and the true value of each of the towns were discussed. In addition, Mr. Castle gave an explanation on how each town s true value impacts the tax rate for each town. Buildings & Grounds Committee: Mr. Petroccelli expressed his satisfaction with the progress of the Health and Safety Project (Phase II). He also thanked Mr. Hecht and Mr. Castle for ensuring the project meetings are effectively facilitated. CDEP Committee: The first CDEP Meeting for the 2010-2011 school year is scheduled for Monday, September 27, 2010, at 9:00 a.m. at the High School Auditorium. Curriculum Committee: Mrs. Anderson announced that a Curriculum Committee Meeting will be held on October 13, 2010, in the High School Library/Media Center at 7:00 p.m. Mr. Hecht shared with the Board that the State Assessment results for each student will be sent home to parents in October. Legislative Committee: The NYSSBA Resolution written by the Board was discussed. The Resolution addresses the frequency of the Internal Audit Function. This Resolution will be amended and is due to NYSSBA by September 3, 2010. Policy Committee: Mr. McCarl announced that the next Policy Meeting will be September 7, 2010, at 7:00 p.m. at the Administration Offices. TAG Committee: The first TAG Meeting of the 2010-2011 school year will be held on October 4, 2010, at 7:00 p.m. in the High School Library/Media Center. Wellness Committee: Mr. O Mara shared with the Board that a date for a Wellness Committee Meeting will be established after the 2010-2011 school year begins. 4. Consent Agenda The use of the Consent Agenda permits the Board of Education to make more effective use of its time by adopting a single motion to cover those relatively routine matters which are included. Any member of the Board who wishes to discuss individually a particular piece of business on the Consent Agenda may so indicate and that item will be considered and voted on separately, thus preserving the right of all Board members to be heard on any issue. Mr. O Mara moved items 4A through 4M and 5A through 5E be taken as consent agenda. Motion seconded by Mr. Petroccelli and carried 7-0. Accept Resignations - Non-Instructional - Agenda #4A The Board accept the recommendation of the Superintendent and accept the resignation of Susan Jarer from the position of Part-Time [0.92 FTE] Supervisory Teacher Aide, assigned to the Clare F. Ostrander Elementary School, effective August 31, 2010, pending her appointment to the position of Part-Time [0.97 FTE] Remedial Lab Teacher Aide. The Board accept the recommendation of the Superintendent and accept the resignation of Janine Mickle from the position of Full-Time [1.0 FTE] Special Education Teacher Aide, assigned to the Clare F. Ostrander Elementary School, effective August 31, 2010, pending her appointment to the position of Full-Time [1.0 FTE] Supervisory Teacher Aide/Clerk. Accept Resignation - Instructional - Agenda #4B The Board accept the recommendation of the Superintendent and accept the resignation of Chris Fiorentino from the position of Mathematics 7-12 Teacher, assigned to the Wallkill Senior High School, effective August 31, 2010. The Board accept the recommendation of the Superintendent and accept the resignation of Annette Martinez from the position of Spanish 7-12 Teacher, assigned to the John G. Borden Middle School, effective September 24, 2010. Page 2

Accept Resignation - Coaching - Agenda #4C The Board accept the recommendation of the Superintendent and accept the resignation of Kevin Falk from the position of High School Assistant Varsity Football Coach for the Fall 2010-2011 school season, pending his appointment to the position of Middle School Modified Head Football Coach for the Fall 2010-2011 school season. Approve Appointments - Non-Instructional - Agenda #4D Dorothy Barnett to a 26-Week Probationary Part-Time [0.97 FTE] Special Education Teacher Aide position, assigned to the Plattekill Elementary School, effective September 1, 2010, at a salary of $9.81 per hour [5.8 hours per day], (Step 3 of the CSEA Contract). Ms. Barnett replaces Rachael Rainieri, who has been reassigned. Angela Dorado to a 26-Week Probationary Part-Time [0.75 FTE] Supervisory Teacher Aide position, assigned to the Leptondale Elementary School, effective September 1, 2010, at a salary of $9.81 per hour [4.5 hours per day], (Step 3 of the CSEA Contract). Ms. Dorado replaces Kimberly Dommermuth, who has been reassigned. Cynthia Haas to a Permanent Per Diem Substitute Teacher Aide position, assigned to the Wallkill Senior High School, for the 2010-2011 school year at a salary of $9.81 per hour (Step 3 of the CSEA Contract) [6.5 hours daily], for a minimum of 160 days, effective September 1, 2010. Susan Jarer to a Part-Time [0.97 FTE] Remedial Lab Teacher Aide position, assigned to the Clare F. Ostrander Elementary School, effective September 1, 2010, at a salary of $10.99 per hour [5.8 hours per day], (Step 7 of the CSEA Contract). Ms. Jarer replaces Kimberly Kiczek, who has been reassigned. The Board accept the recommendation of the Superintendent and approve the 90-Day Probationary appointment of Janine Mickle to a Full-Time [1.0 FTE] Supervisory Teacher Aide/Clerk position, assigned to the Plattekill Elementary School, effective September 1, 2010, at a salary of $16,575.84 (Step 10 of the CSEA hourly schedule for 3 hours per day, Step 10 of the Clerk s hourly schedule for 3.75 hours per day). Ms. Mickle replaces Samanta Rivera, who has been reassigned. Joseph Rudnitski to a 26-Week Probationary Part-Time [0.50 FTE] Custodial Worker position, assigned to the Clare F. Ostrander Elementary School, effective September 1, 2010, at a salary of $12.33 per hour [4.0 hours per day], (Step 3, Grade 11 of the CSEA Contract). Mr. Rudnitski replaces Michael Wilson, who has been reassigned. Elizabeth Trappe to a 26-Week Probationary Part-Time [0.97 FTE] Special Education Teacher Aide position, assigned to the Plattekill Elementary School, effective September 1, 2010, at a salary of $9.81 per hour [5.8 hours per day], (Step 3 of the CSEA Contract). Ms. Vredenburgh replaces Cynthia Delgado, who has been reassigned. Approve Appointments - Instructional - Agenda #4E Alba Borchert to a 2-Year Probationary French Teacher position, assigned to the John G. Borden Middle School, for the 2010-2011 school year at a salary of $48,047 (1NMA) effective September 1, 2010. Ms. Borchert replaces Kimberly Helmstetter, who has resigned. Jeanne Chun to a 3-Year Probationary English Teacher position, assigned to the Wallkill Senior High School, at a salary of $44,021 (1NBA) effective September 1, 2010. Ms. Chun replaces Lorraine Goldstein, who has retired. Michelle Clay to a 1-Year Substitute Leave Students With Disabilities Generalist (Grades 5-9) Teacher position, assigned to the John G. Borden Middle School for the 2010-2011 school year at a salary of $46,046 (1NBA + 15 credits) effective September 1, 2010 through June 30, 2011. Ms. Clay replaces Colleen Kellner, who is on a Child Rearing Leave effective September 1, 2010 through June 30, 2011. Brian Graham to a Permanent Per Diem Substitute Teacher position assigned to the Wallkill Senior High School for the 2010-2011 school year for a minimum of 160 days at a rate of $98.00 per day, effective September 1, 2010. Sean Murphy to a 3-Year Probationary English Teacher position, assigned to the Wallkill Senior High School, for the 2010-2011 school year at a salary of $44,021 (1NBA) effective September 1, 2010. Mr. Murphy replaces Sophie Jenkins, who has retired. Nicole Pluchino to a Permanent Per Diem Substitute Teacher position assigned to the John G. Borden Middle School for the 2010-2011 school year for a minimum of 160 days at a rate of $98.00 per day, effective September 1, 2010. Approve Pre-School Special Education Placements - Agenda #4L The Board approve the placement of Pre-School Special Education students as recommended by the Committee on Special Education in its July minutes. Approve Rate for 2009-2010 Health Services - Agenda #5C The Board accept the recommendation of the Superintendent and approve the rate of $565.00 per child for Health Services provided by the Wallkill School District to students attending non-public schools in the District during the 2009-2010 school year. Set 2010-2011 Tax Rate - Agenda #5D The Board accept the recommendation of the Superintendent and set the tax rate for the 2010-2011 school year at $19.47 per thousand of true value based on the approved budget of $63,874,681. Approve Change Order -Agenda #5E The Board accept the recommendation of the Superintendent and approve the following Change Order for Whispering Pines Development Corp.: SC-01 $70,307.88 5. Public Comment - Agenda #6 At 8:04 p.m. the floor was opened for public comment. No comment. 6. Executive Session - Agenda #7 At 8:05 p.m. Mr. O Mara moved the Board enter Executive Session to discuss the employment history of particular individuals. Motion seconded by Mrs. Anderson and carried 7-0. The Board reconvened at 8:13 a.m. 6. Close Meeting - Agenda #8 At 8:14 p.m. Mr. O Mara moved to adjourn the meeting.
