Course Description This study emphasizes the results of economic decisions by groups and governments that determine economic performance including economic growth, price levels, employment, tax burdens, government spending and the management of government debt. The role of money and banking in an open market economy, circular flow and the cyclical nature of economies are treated in details. Upon completion of the course, the student will be able to 1. The CANVAS LMS System: Familiarize yourself with the way in which the information is presented:where is the syllabus, where is the schedule of tests, how to contact Canvas(Tel: 1-(877) 889-9052) if you are disconnected during a test, etc. If you find the Canvas format confusing, please understand that the format is STANDARD for Canvas classes and the instructor will not change it. This class rests upon three different server systems: the COC system, the CANVAS system and a private system. Any and all of these systems may go down during the term. When a server goes down, students as well as the instructor must patiently wait for the system to go back online& sending email to the instructor every 10 minutes will not speed up the process, please send only one email. Depending on the nature of the problem and as soon as the instructor receives information from the problem server system, an announcement will be made to the entire class under the heading Announcements. 8th. It is important that you set aside time everyday to go over the material. If you fall behind, there will be no time to catch up. The office hour will be T,TH 8:00-9:30am. The instructor's office: PCOH-120 All dates and deadlines are on Pacific Standard time unless it is specified otherwise. For an example, the due of the tests is usually Friday or Saturday night( on Pacific Standard time. 3 mid term tests and final must be taken on Friday or Saturday (Due date) during the week they are scheduled. Once the exam window closes, you will not be allowed to re-enter the quiz again. Please be careful in order to avoid closing the window accidentally. So do not wait for the last minute to take the test. There are no make-ups for homework, or exams. Remember you have between two(2) days to take a test. Tests/final time window: Students have a limited amount of time to finish 3 mid term tests and the final exam. Time allowed for the test appears at the top of the window. Please make a note of it as soon as you enter your tests /final. If you exceed this time limit, the quiz window will not automatically close, but your grade on that quiz will be zero. If,due to a technical error, you are cut off from your test /final, send an e-mail to your instructor immediately. If you fail to contact the instructor immediately, you will not be allowed to take the test/final at a latter date and your grade on that test/final will be zero. If you cannot enter a test/final on the day schedule, send one e-mail to the instructor immediately. Each week students should 1. watch lecture video clips of "thinkwell". 2. Complete all questions and problems for each chapter of "Thinkwell". 3. Read any extra material assigned. 4. Contribute to the threaded discussion. 5. completete the all 4 homework assignments(10 points each homework). 6. participate at all 4 threaded discussions to earn the credits(5 points each discussion). 7. take a quiz on 4th,8th, 12th and 16th week. 8. check "Gradebook" for the test score and extra credits in proper manner, for accuracy of record and for dropping class within timely

schedule. The students who wish to withdraw from the class can do so within drop deadline with their own responsibilities. GRADING BASIS Possible Test points: THREE(3) MID-TERM(40 POINTS EACH) ONE(1) FINAL SUBTOTAL 120 POINTS 80 POINTS 200 POINTS Grading Policies 4 Homeworks: 40 points (each homework: 10 points) 4 Discussions: 20 points (each discussion: 5 points) GRADING SCALE: Assignment of letter grades for the course is determined by the total points(260= 200(4 tests) + 60( credits of 4 homeworks and 4 discussions )) given: (260-234 POINTS) 100%- 90% A (233-208 POINTS) <90%-80% B (207-182 POINTS) <80%-70% C (181-156 POINTS) <70%- 60% D (0-155 POINTS) <60%-0% F Note: The course grade is based on the above straight scale, not by curve. However hard test questions are, still the class grade will be assigned, based on the above straight scale, not by curve. Policy on MISSED EXAMS: There will be NO MAKE-UP EXAMS. Any excuses including vacation plans, oversleeping, lack of study times and other chances of a life time are not allowed. All the tests(mid term and final) are the required ones. So if students miss any one test, the students may not be qualified for passing the

course, which means you may be dropped from the class before the drop deadline. Remember you have two(2) days to take a test, on Friday or Saturday. You have between two(2) days to take the final on Friday and Saturday(December 7th and 8th). Policy on taking test: Each mid term test should be completed within 40 minutes, while final test should be completed within 70 minutes for T/F and M/C and 10 minutes for final essay. The mid term tests is made of T/F and M/C(40 points, the student has to complete 40 questions within 40 minutes) and Final test is made of 2 parts including one part of T/F and M/C(70 points, you have to complete 70 questions within 70 minutes) and the other part of a short essay question(10 points, You have to complete within 10 minutes). Students must take tests within the deadline. Please refer the syllabus for the deadline. Each test is made mostly based on practice questions of thinkwell. Considering the on -line class test format( open material test including textbook and communication with other classmate), strength of preserving integrity, quality and consistency of test bank questions of thinkwell can exceed the weakness of difficulty of the test questions. Before taking this class, you have to agree on the test format and various types of test questions with various difficulties. Especially CANVAS computer will choose test questions randomly from the test pool written by Thinkwell. Therefore,the students must complete all the practice/ exercise questions of the corresponding chapters of thinkwell thoroughly to perform best in the test/final. So each student will have different test questions. Remember, this on -line class requires students' self discipline to study for the class. Policy on EXTRA CREDITS: Students can earn the credits by completing four(4) homework assignments within the deadline. Each homework is worth of ten(10)points. Students will have four(4) chances to earn the maximum of forty(40) points of the credits. Please refer the syllabus for the deadline. Also the students are required to participate four(4) threaded discussions. Your participation can earn you the maximum five(5) points of credit from each discussion, regardless of how many times you are participating at each discussion. The students will have chances to earn the maximum sixty(60) points of credits of 4 homeworks and 4 discussions for the entire course. To earn the credit, your initiating opinion(2.5 points) and your response to other student's(at least TWO people) opinion(2.5 points) must be more than five(5) sentences, based on the researched facts and your logical analysis, not totally on your imagination, your personal political or social opinion. Late work(one day after due) of each homework and discussion will be only 5 points, not 10 point for late homework, and 2.5 points, not 5 points for late discussion. Late work of any homework and discussion is not acceptable during the final exam or after final exam. Especially all participants in the discussion should obey a proper Netiquette or a code of conduct in the Net,which should respect others' opinion, not use slang or curse word
