SUSQUEHANNA TOWNSHIP SCHOOL DISTRICT Harrisburg, Pennsylvania 17109 SYNOPSIS OF JULY 23, 2007 SCHOOL BOARD MEETING SCHOOL BOARD ANNOUNCEMENTS President Randy L. Wolfgang Reminder of the Induction Luncheon for new teachers and their mentors. Strategic Planning is set for July 24 th, 25 th and 26 th. The Middle School Staff, as a result of their administration-approved dress-down days, has contributed $1,250 to Bethesda Mission this year. The High School Staff donated their $1,000 contributions from dress-down days to the American Cancer Society; American Heart Association; Amish shooting victims; Virginia Tech Memorial Fund; the Hanna Education Foundation and the Rescue Fire Company in memory of Donald Carnes. SCHOOL BOARD ANNOUNCEMENTS Superintendent David W. Volkman Read letter of appreciation from Chief Martin. Two seniors were selected as youth leaders at the annual Model Youth and Government Conference: Nick Finio Blue Senate Majority Leader Outstanding Senator Paul Waters Senate Minority Leader Read letter of appreciation from students Joshua Kurtz and Joshua Packer for the Board s support of their participation in the FBLA s national entrepreneurial competition. Acknowledge Judy Baumgardner s completion of the Pennsylvania Inspired Leadership Training for School Leaders. Rebecca Pringle, former middle school science teacher, is running for secretary-treasurer of the National Education Association. It is hoped that the high school stadium can be re-opened when punch list items are complete and security cameras are in place.

The Recreation Department will be assigning a ranger to close the middle school fields during the work-week and facilitate community use on the weekends. PRESENTATIONS AND DISCUSSIONS ٠ 2007-2008 DISTRICT GOALS Mr. Volkman presented the 2007-2008 District Goals for board review and approval. Three goals are posited in the current Strategic Plan and include a focus on enrichment utilization of assessment data by staff, and implementation of a non-traditional secondary program for targeted students. Other goals include implementing a K-12 career planning curriculum; a district-wide discipline plan; oversight of the construction project at Sara Lindemuth, and improvement of operation relative to components of the business office. The board unanimously approved the goals to be presented to the staff in August. ٠ UPDATE ON SUMMER PROJECTS Mr. Volkman and Mr. Malinowski updated the board on the numerous summer projects currently being executed to include: re-roofing the 1966 addition to the high school re-tubing of high school boilers replacement of roof-top air-conditioning units at Sara Lindemuth fire alarm upgrades at middle and high schools high school landscaping upgrading of the lighting in the high school gymnasium asbestos abatement at the high school ٠ HONEYWELL PERFORMANCE RESOLUTION RELATIVE TO DCTS CONSTRUCTION Following discussion relative to the proposed Honeywell Energy Contract that will provide an energy audit, along with the replacement of heating and air-conditioning units at the Technical School, the school board voted four (4) to three (3)in favor of the resolution. AYP RESULTS, RELATIVE TO THE PENNSYLVANIA ASSESSMENT Mr. Volkman provided the board with a preliminary report on the AYP results. It was noted that all schools made adequate yearly progress (AYP). In addition, the board was advised that attendance, graduation and assessment participation levels were achieved.
