College Access, Readiness, and Success Services (CARSS) the center provides services to all incoming freshmen who needs to gain proficiencies in areas such as math, reading, and writing; assists undergraduate students attending CSUSM on academic probation and testing

accommodations; and works with high schools in the local service area to assist students with collage preparation. Latin@ Center a newly established center that provides cultural, personal, and academic support to students who self-identified as Latina/o. Veteran Services a center designed to assist veterans with transition to college, retention, graduation, and career readiness. Black Student Center a newly created center that scheduled to open in the spring of 2017. The center will provide Black students, faculty, and staff will a space to engage socially and academically. Its goal is to increase enrollment, retention, and graduation of black students, faculty, and staff at CSUSM. Supervised eight directors, a budget analyst, an administrative program coordinator, and two student employees. Managed and responsible for an overall budget of over $3.5 million. Collaborated on a regular basis with units such as Undergraduate Studies; Office of Equity and Diversity; Enrollment Management, Financial Aid, and Registrar; Dean of Students; Office of Human Resources; Institutional Planning and Analysis, Schools and Colleges; and the Provost s Office. Campus Involvement Served on the following committees: Graduation Initiative Steering Committee o Co-chair sub-committee on 15-Finish Initiative High Impact Practice Committee Student Orientation Planning Committee Campus App Steering Committee Degree Planner Workgroup Chaired workgroup on the feasibility of CSUSM s first Black Student Center (spring 2016) Co-Chaired Committee on Enrollment Management and Advising (Fall 2015) University of Wisconsin-Madison Assistant Dean, Student Diversity Programs, School of Education, August 1, 2008-July 4, 2015 Program Management August 2008-August 2010 Directly supervised three program directors, four advisors, six graduate assistants, and an administrative assistant. Developed and managed a budget of over $15 million from state and federal sources. Provided administrative oversight of programs that serve students from underrepresented backgrounds: Pre-College Enrichment Opportunity Program for Learning Excellence (PEOPLE) a precollege pipeline program serving over 1,000 students from Madison, Milwaukee, and Wisconsin tribal communities. First Wave a unique scholarship program for high achieving students interested in hip-hop and spoken word in the academia. Center for Educational Opportunity (CeO) a federally funded academic support program serving 650 students from low-income families, first generation college students, and students with disabilities. Directed the Posse Program, a scholarship program that recruits high achieving student leaders from diverse backgrounds in Chicago, Los Angeles, and Washington, D.C.

Advised and monitored academic progress of over 100 Posse scholars annually. Hired and supervised graduate students who served as Posse mentors. These graduate students were hired for a two-year term with a 50% appointment to work with Posse students during their first two years in college. Created a handbook for mentors and established a regular staff meeting. Assisted the UW Foundation with fundraising efforts. Collaborated with the Posse Foundation on issues such as contracts, tracking students, and the scholar selection process. Instituted scholarship expectations, GPA guidelines, data collection, and established a database for tracking purposes. Created and managed a Posse student group in ISIS to track graduation and retention. Collaborated with the Bursar and Student Financial Aid Office to manage tuition payment and financial aid packages. Assisted with the finalist selection organized by the Posse Offices in Los Angeles, Chicago, and Washington. D.C. Directed the following programs from 2008-2015 College Access Program (CAP) a three-week residential pre-college program serving 30-50 high school students from low-income families, first generation college students, and students from ethnically underrepresented backgrounds. Summer Education Research Program (SERP) an eight-week program that provides the opportunity for underrepresented minority students to conduct research with faculty mentors. Established and managed the following programs from 2008-2015 Education Graduate Research Scholars Program (Ed-GRS) a fellowship program for highachieving graduate students from underrepresented backgrounds. The program also provides fellows with professional development and social activities and opportunities to network with faculty mentors. Ed-GRS is guided by a faculty advisory board to provide funding policies, determine nomination processes, and guide the program. Office of Undergraduate Recruitment and Retention (OURR) this office focuses on strategies to recruit and retain undergraduate students from historically underrepresented backgrounds, particularly in Teacher Education. American Indian Curriculum Services (ACT 31) the office promotes the integration and teaching of Wisconsin American Indian history, cultures, and sovereignty issues in K-12 curriculum. Assisted the staff in all programs with strategic planning, programming, data collection, program evaluation, planning of community building and professional development activities for undergraduate and graduate students. Collaborated with the Graduate School and graduate programs to recruit high achieving students from underrepresented backgrounds. Student Engagement Supported undergraduate and graduate students of color with career exploration, crisis intervention, dissertation writing process, and financial issues. Met with and monitor progress of graduate students who receive fellowships though the School of Education. Organize academic, professional development workshops and social activities for fellows. Collaborated with department administrators, faculty, and staff to promote positive climate, access, and equity in the School of Education. Worked collaboratively with faculty and staff to design and implemented a climate survey for students in the Teacher Education programs in the fall of 2010. A similar survey was redesigned and conducted

school-wide in the fall of 2012. Served on dissertation committees for students in the Counseling Psychology Department. Designed curriculum and co-teach Curriculum and Instruction 375: Current Issues in Education. The course is offered to undergraduate students in Teacher Education Programs and those who are interested in becoming an educator. The course is used as a recruitment tool as well as a space for students to discuss diversity and inequity issues in education. Administrative Leadership Managed budget of over $1.5 million per year. Co-chaired the School of Education Equity and Diversity Committee. The committee consists of twentyfive members including faculty, staff, and students. The committee is charged with addressing diversity and equity issues. Assisted with the planning of an annual school-wide training for new graduate assistant employees. The training focuses topics such as on cultural competencies, classroom management, and conflict resolution. Coordinated and promoted a yearly Common Read Series in the School of Education to promote dialogue and awareness on diversity issues. The series offers book discussion groups, speaker panels, and author visits. Conducted dean actions regarding late drop, withdrawal requests, and readmission. Represented the School of Education on issues related to diversity and climate at the campus-wide level. Serve as a member of School of Education Administrative Planning Council, School of Education s Minority Scholarship Committee, and the Campus-Wide Minority/Disadvantaged Students Coordinator Group. Represented the School of Education on the Graduate Research Scholar Governing Board. The board works with the Graduate School on fellowship budget and requirements for underrepresented students and finding ways for each Graduate Research Community to collaborate and share resources. It also advises the Graduate School on issues such as data collection, program evaluation, and fellowship awarding processes. Served as a voting member of the School of Education s Coordinated Council for Professional Educators (CCPE). The council membership consists of community members, representatives from school districts, teacher unions, the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction, faculty, and staff. The council advises the school on curriculum and program changes, state and federal requirements for teacher certifications, and current issues in public education. Chaired the School of Education s Committee on Academic Staff Issues (CASI). CASI is a governance group for academic staff in each school and colleges. The committee s roles are to address issues such as professional development opportunities, school climate, and employee evaluation. Lead an initiative to create the first s School of Education s undergraduate and graduate programs brochures for recruitment purposes. Campus & Community Involvement Taught the Wisconsin Idea Seminar (Counseling Psychology 125) in the fall of 2012 (freshmen section) and the spring of 2013 (transfer section), and the fall of 2014 (freshmen section). This seminar was created by the Center for First Year Experience to support students transitioning from high school to college or from another institution to UW-Madison as well as to promote a holistic approach to undergraduate education. Served on UW-Madison s Human Resource Redesign Work Team on Diverse Workforce (2012-2013) Represented academic staff on UW-Madison Residency Appeal Committee, UW-Academic Staff Appeal Committee, and the Multicultural Learning Community Steering Committee. Co-chaired (2010-2011) and served as a member of the Ad-Hoc committee on budget for academic staff (2011-2012). This committee met regularly with the Vice Chancellor for Administration to discuss updates on the State budget and worked on a proposal for the campus to create a retention fund for academic staff. The committee played a major role in the implementation of the Critical Compensation Fund, which was implemented in the summer of 2012.

Member of the Madison AVID/TOPS Steering Committee. AVID is national-wide program that works with high school students from disadvantaged backgrounds. The program supports students in the middle-range by providing academic skills support directly within the classroom settings. TOPS provides students with pre-college advising, internship opportunities, and mentoring. Served as a member of a taskforce on workforce diversity. The taskforce is a part of Forward Madison, a $2.7 million joint initiative between the School of Education and the Madison Metropolitan School District (MMSD). This initiative has three components: new principal induction, new teacher induction, and workforce diversity. The workforce diversity taskforce is charged with designing a teacher pipeline program that will help to increase enrollment of students from diverse backgrounds in the UW s teacher education programs as well as prepare students to become teachers in the Madison Metropolitan School District. Served on an evaluation oversight committee for the PEOPLE program. PEOPLE is one of the largest pre-college pipeline program in the U.S. serving over 1500 students from elementary to college levels. The oversight committee participated in the procurement process (reviewed proposals and recommended an appreciate evaluation team) and advices/guides the evaluation team on the process and the final report. Selected by the Office of Vice Provost for Diversity and Climate to serve on a sub-committee on administrative accountability for the UW s 2014 Diversity Framework. TRIO Student Support Services (SSS) Program Director, January 2008-July 30, 2008 Associate Director, 2004-2007 Assistant Director, 1997-2004 SSS is funded by a grant from the U.S. Department of Education. The program provides support to students from low-income families, first generation college students, and students with disabilities. It served 600 students, 90% of whom were students of color and over 70% were first generation students from low-income families. SSS multi-faceted services included: academic and career advising, assistance with financial aid process, one-on-one and group tutoring, writing and study skills development, professional and graduate school advising, personal counseling, workshops, college orientation, and social and cultural activities. Program Design and Development Supervised six professional staff members and two graduate students. Managed and monitored combined federal and state budgets of over $700,000. Coordinated day-to-day departmental operations. Lead, developed, and implemented strategies to promote academic success of students in the program. Directed other staff with the planning and implementation of their work assignments including career advising curriculum, a mentoring program, and tutoring program. Coordinated and planned academic, career, and skills enhancement workshops for students. Facilitated and coordinated the planning process for the SSS First Year Program, which includes a week-long orientation, block scheduling, intensive advising and monitoring system. Developed and implemented the SSS Second Year Program for sophomores to promote career development and leadership skills. Collaborated with faculty members to secure seats in lectures or create new courses for SSS students. Initiated and built partnership with multiple departments and units on campus to promote the program and expand services to students. Administered the program application process to comply with federal guidelines. Formulated and implemented office policies and procedures. Organized a yearly in-service training for staff members. Published and designed newsletters and other promotional publications. Managed search and screen processes for new academic staff and graduate assistants. Trained new staff members. Assisted the Director and Associate Dean with the program planning and decision making.

Student Development and Advising Established and implemented academic advising plans for program participants. Adopted the usage of the Six Week Grade Report and advising holds to monitor the progress of freshmen and students with GPAs lower than 2.5. Tracked students on probation and assisted them with action plans to improve academic performance. Instituted new student orientation processes to introduce students to the program expectations and services. Assigned advisors and managed the number of advising caseloads for all advisors. Responsible for a caseload of over 170 students in addition to management responsibilities. Educated and advised students on academic planning and decision making, course selection, university policies, career exploration, and personal issues. Worked with various academic units to assist SSS students with their academic or financial issues. Kept up to date the requirements and admissions policies of all majors and current career trends. Informed students about internships and research opportunities. Responded to crises and assisted staff and students with problem solving. Campus Involvement and Services Served as a liaison between SSS and other academic units on campus and in the Madison community. Worked with faculty and departments to create collaboration opportunities and to increase the program s visibility. Participated in outreach activities to educate the campus community about the program and issues affecting first generation and low-income students. Presented to prospective students about college opportunities and admissions processes. Collaborated with pre-college programs for students of color and economically disadvantaged students in their efforts to recruit and retain students. Served on numerous planning committees that focused on improving retention and graduation rates of students of color and students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds. Participated in and contributed to the various campus wide efforts to improve diversity and campus climate such as teaching assistant training and search and screen committees. Served as a member of the UW Residency Appeal Committee. The committee uses the Wisconsin Statutes as a guideline to determine residency status for tuition remission purposes. Multicultural Student Advisory Board member, which provided oversight and advice to the general operation of the Multicultural Student Center. Established the Walter Lane Scholarship Fund with a $100,000 endowment.
