THE DALY COLLEGE Annual Exam Syllabus 2016-17 Class IX CIE Subject English Annual Examination Syllabus READING AND WRITING- PAPER1 (EXTENDED- 0510) Weighing 70%. Reading and writing skills are equally weighed within the component. Question paper is divided into seven exercises. - Exercise 1 and 2 are reading exercises. (To retrieve facts and details, and to understand and select relevant information from a short text i.e. advertisement, brochure, notice, guide, report, manual or set of instructions which may include pictures, diagrams etc.) - Exercise 3 requires you to read a passage and then complete a form or some notes using information from the passage. (To identify and retrieve facts and details, as well as understanding and selecting relevant information from the text.) - Exercise 4 requires you to read a passage and make notes using information from the passage. - Exercise 5 requires you to read another passage and write a paragraphlength summary about an aspect of it. - ( To concentrate on the skills required for more detailed comprehension of longer texts similar to the type found in reports, newspaper or magazine articles and showing an understanding of information that is implied, but not actually written) - Exercises 6 and 7 each require you to write 150-200 words of continuous prose in response to a statement and/ or prompts. (To develop the skills you need to write long pieces of continuous prose, such as article, e-mail, letter (formal and informal)or report in which you give your views or opinions.) LISTENING AND SPEAKING- PAPER 2 (EXTENDED) Weighing 30 % - Part 1 involves listening to six short spoken texts and giving short answers. - Part 2 involves listening to two longer texts and using the information to complete a form or chart. - Part 3 involves listening to two longer spoken texts and giving short or sentence- length answers.
