Volume 3 Week 4 Newsletter Date: 16th February 2016 St Mary s News The Educational Ministry of St Fergal s Catholic Parish The Season of Lent Last week was a very busy week in our school! On Wednesday signalled the beginning of the season of Lent with our children participating in a reverent liturgy in the Library. We also started our fundraising for Project Compassion with pancakes for recess on Shrove Tuesday. The generosity of our students was fantastic to see! Swimming Carnival Our Lady of Perpetual Help Patroness of the Diocese of Wilcannia-Forbes. Big congratulations to all our students who participated in the Swimming Carnival last Thursday. There was a wonderful atmosphere with lots of cheering and many examples of excellent sportsmanship from all students. I was very impressed by the can do attitude of our students who were willing to get in and have a go! Thank you to Mrs Hill for her organisation of the carnival. A sausage sizzle will be operating from 5.30pm for all the family followed by a general information session in the Library at 6.00pm. Religious Education Year Six Induction Last Friday our Year Six students were inducted as Captains, Vice-Captains and Prefects. We were thrilled to have Father Jim Victory in our Parish to celebrate the mass with our school community. The Year Six students set a great example to the younger students by the reverence they demonstrated throughout the mass. Shrove Tuesday Thank you to all students who supported our pancake morning tea. A total of $93 was raised and will be forwarded to Caritas at the end of Lent. Reflection for the first week of Lent Week 1- Jesus Is Tempted Scripture: Luke 4:1-13 Gracious God: Just as you were with Jesus through his temptations, we know you are with us as well. Help us to remember we are not alone. Help us to share this knowledge with others, so that they, too, can know your love and care. Amen.

This includes the traditional fundraising but it is also about building and keeping the school community together in meetings and through functions where parents interact and seek information about the school. St Mary's School has a Parents and Friends (P&F) committee which meets once a month to plan fund-raising activities for the school. The P&F is organised to support our school in various ways and in addition, to give all parents an opportunity to get to know each other. It is essential that St Mary s Parish School has the support and co-operation of all parents if we are to attain a high standard of education for our children. It is the parents spirit of generosity and support for the children at our school that encourages us all to aim for the very best that is possible in the Catholic Education of the children in our care. All meetings and functions are advertised in the weekly newsletter, on the school's webpage and via the St Mary's Skoolbag App. Each year the P&F committee is elected at the Annual General Meeting. The Committee consists of: 1. President (vacant) 2. Vice President (vacant) 3. Treasurer (Tess Blair) 4. Minutes and Correspondence Secretary (vacant) We look forward to meeting new parents and welcoming existing parents who wish to join our very important committee.
