Sheffield Hallam University BA (Hons) Jewellery and Metalwork Registration Number (Non-Local Higher and Professional Education (Regulation) Ordinance): 252251 Sheffield Hallam University Sheffield Hallam University is one of the UK s most popular universities with more than 34,000 students. The University has decades of experience of delivering courses internationally and welcomes over 4,000 students from more than 125 countries. A Sheffield Hallam degree gives students life-long access to a global community of thousands of graduates, including regular social and networking events organised in Hong Kong. The programmes offered by the Sheffield Hallam University are internationally recognised by employers and professional associations. Graduates may be eligible for an Alumni Scholarship towards one of the postgraduate programmes offered in the UK. Programme Overview This programme aims to enable students to develop their comprehensive understanding of the scope and demands of the practice of Jewellery and Metalwork. It will provide a strong grounding in both traditional hand skills and evolving modern technologies. The underlying focus of the programme is on creative practice in the demanding vocation of Jewellery and Metalwork. In addition, it will provide an opportunity to develop students potential as creative practitioners and prepare them for a subsequent career within Jewellery and Metalwork and other closely associated design disciplines. The programme will encourage students to experiment, innovate and explore a range of precious and non-precious metals and other materials available to them as designer makers. Drawing, sketching, model making, prototyping, photography, digital design and live projects all form an important part of the programme. This programme will help students develop and understand their own creativity and explore different approaches to designing and making objects of metalwork, silverware, jewellery and goldsmithing. By the end of the programme, students will have a broad range of understanding of the necessary skills and expertise to work within the challenging discipline of contemporary Jewellery and Metalwork. The programme will address the aspirations of students who wish to set up professionally as a Jewellery and Metalwork designer maker, whilst developing key skills allowing graduates to pursue careers in related creative industries. This breadth of skills and knowledge reflects the needs of the industry and will provide them with a platform to challenge and enhance contemporary design practice. The programme aims to provide the industry with creative and imaginative designers who are able to understand and respond to the context of their work. For example, how it relates to existing and emerging technology and how it must also respond to wider issues such as lifestyles, contemporary culture, history, society, business and environmental concerns. Students will be encouraged to develop the means of staying abreast of these issues and to understand the importance of continuing professional development beyond university and in employment.
