But what if they re asking the wrong questions? In Quality Questioning, authors Jackie Walsh and Beth Sattes provide an in-depth look at how quality questions can transform classrooms. Developers of the QUILT framework, Walsh and Sattes show that teachers already know how to ask effective questions, but sometimes find it difficult to change their questioning behaviors. (A207-A208) K-12 workshop for all general ed, bilingual, ESL teachers/administrators to learn the basics of how ELLs acquire English (room A215) The Thinking Maps Training of Trainers (TOT) is a process used by schools and school districts for the purpose of developing either a singular trainer or team of trainers for expanding and deepening the use of Thinking Maps in a whole school and/or within feeder patterns. Thinking Maps is a common visual language for learning within and across the disciplines. (A207-A208) An effective staff developer represents more than someone who can train others on a number of topics or deliver a program with the stated goal of filling time. Today s staff developer must know the techniques and processes that demonstrate a deep understanding of the subjects they teach. Both the content and adult learning processes selected must be based on student learning needs and organizational goals. The purpose of this twoday module is to provide the research base that supports effective staff development. Texas ASCD will model learner-centered, brain-compatible, participatory activities to prove that learning can be both meaningful and fun. (Location: Transportation West, Room A207 & A208).
