PROVISIONS FOR THE PLACEMENT PERIOD OF THE ACCADEMIA DI ARCHITETTURA According to the regulations, the placement period must be completed after the second year of study (BSc2) Duration: 9 consecutive months (minimum) 12 consecutive months (maximum) Students can get work experience at architectural firms, craft workshops, research centers, etc.

Students who do not hold the end of placement interview or do not provide the CERTIFICATE OF PRACTICE ACTIVITY will not obtain the recognition of their placement in their transcript and will not receive the BSc diploma as a consequence. Students who must complete the placement period are, on yearly average, 120/130 + 20 students coming from other universities and MSc students

PLACEMENT: BEFORE YOUR DEPARTURE COMPULSORY FOR ALL STUDENTS

In the 2nd semester of the BSc2 a number of meetings for information are organized as follows First meeting in groups Subsequently, individual meetings The first meeting is held early in the 2 nd semester of the BSc2 with the head of placement. The students (meeting in groups) will receive information about the placement system including: Times (duration of the placement, starting and return dates). Number and types of architectural offices available. Differences in working methods, depending on the office and the number of staff. Bureaucracy (forms required by the offices, placement agreement, letters of introduction, study certificates, CVs and study portfolio, etc.). Visas for non-european countries (India, Australia, China, USA,etc.). Work permits for Switzerland.

The following meetings are individual, by appointment, with the head of placement. The student presents his intentions, plans, and the place where he wishes to do a placement (firm, city, and country), seeking approval. If the students has no proposals, the head of placement offers him destinations already tested and available to the Accademia.

A subsequent meeting will be held to ensure that all the portfolios prepared by individual students are legible and presentable to the architectural offices. The portfolios must present the projects produced in the period of study for the BSc1 and BSc2 courses and the candidate s CV. The firm which welcomes the student requires this document. The student sends on average 7/10 applications for placement. In case of negative responses, the student meets again with the head of placement to receive other information and other possible destinations.

To obtain recognition for the placement, each student must comply with following regulations: send an email to the head of placement confirming the first day s work (gabriele.cappellato@usi.ch) compile a final portfolio with a selection of work done specifying its nature (projects, publications, photos of building sites or architectural field trips) Job contracts must not be sent. These documents are only of interest to the students and his employer.

During the placement, the student will be informed again via email about the procedure he needs to follow in order to have his placement recognised in the transcript. Students must check their Accademia email account at least once per week.

BACK FROM THE PLACEMENT PERIOD COMPULSORY FOR EVERY STUDENT

END OF PLACEMENT INTERVIEW 5-6 - 7 September 2016 The dates for the interview will be confirmed during the placement period via email. Before the start of the new academic year, the head of placement, together with an internal Commission, will review each and every student for the end of placement interview and will review the work done during the placement months.

DOCUMENTS REQUIRED FOR ALL STUDENTS UPON THEIR RETURN TO THE ACCADEMIA FROM THE PLACEMENT PERIOD Prepare an Attestation of Practical Work which must be handed in in ORIGINAL form at the end of the placement period Prepare a Portfolio-Book (in portrait or landscape format, A4-A3), that is a compilation of projects and study material obtained during the placement period. This must be handed in during the end of placement interview and it must contain a brief personal description of the period at the firm.

Students without both documents (Attestation and Portfolio), wil not be able to do the interview. These documents will be collected by the head of placement on the day of the interview. You are encouraged to keep a personal copy of these documents. The Attestation of Practical Work must be enclosed with the Portfolio-Book, not be bound in it. WITHOUT THIS DOCUMENT IN ORIGINAL FORM THE PLACEMENT WILL NOT BE RECOGNISED.

GUIDELINES FOR THE PORTFOLIO OF THE PLACEMENT-PERIOD GENERAL INFORMATION RECOMMENDED FORMATS: A4-A3 (portrait or landscape format) The student should select some of the most significant projects followed and developed during the period of placement To explain the work, it is possible to submit basic material from the office necessary for an understanding of the projects. DO NOT BIND the Attestation of Practical Work inside the portfolio The portfolio may be returned, on request, at the end of the cycle of studies. Students are advised to make their personal copy.

EXCHANGE STUDIES (EX ERASMUS) AFTER THE PLACEMENT PERIOD The students who have been selected for the Exchange Studies after the placement period will have their end of placement interview upon their return from the Exchange studies. The date will be communicated in advance via email.

PRESENTATION PLACEMENT SCHOLARSHIP 2016-2017 Working abroad with SEMP (Swiss European Mobility Program)

SEMP SCHOLARSHIP Switzerland directly participates in the European programs for education and lifelong learning (LLP). The SEMP placement scholarship is only available to students who will carry out their placement period in European countries comprised by the SEMP programme (see next page) Students carrying out a placement period in extra-european countries WILL NOT BE ABLE to benefit from the Scholarship, they will not have to submit any of these documents as a consequence. Students carrying out a placement period in Switzerland WILL NOT BE ABLE to benefit from the Scholarship since they have a salaried contract with the firm and they will not have to submit any of these documents as a consequence. Students CANNOT carry out a placement in their home country, with the exception of those who have a Permit B.

SEMP SCHOLARSHIP Duration: 9 consecutive months minimum 12 consecutive months maximum Scholarship: CHF420 In order to receive the scholarship the student must carry out all of his placement in the same firm. In the event of an interruption of the placement period, he must return the scholarship amount in proportion to the time spent at the hosting firm. In the event of an interruption, IT IS NOT POSSIBLE to request a new scholarship. During is university studies, the student can only request one placement scholarship IT IS NOT POSSIBLE to request a Scholarship after the start of the placement

It must be signed by the head of placement and submitted to the receiving firm.

The documents for the Scholarship must be sent once and all together, either via regular mail or email, after they have been fully completed. Incomplete documents will not be accepted.
