Memo to: From: Executive Directors Constituent Medical Associations James L. Madara, MD Date: February 4, 2019 Subject: 2019 Constituent Society Delegate Apportionment I am pleased to provide delegate apportionment figures for 2019. Last year our American Medical Association (AMA) experienced a ninth consecutive year of membership growth, and 283 delegates will be apportioned across 54 states and territories in the House of, an increase of 10 over last year. Delegate apportionment is based on official AMA membership records as of December 31, 2018, with one delegate apportioned for every 1,000, or fraction thereof, AMA members. The attached table provides a state by state breakdown. Those states that have endorsed regional medical student delegates or resident sectional delegates should be aware that these delegates are not reflected in the figures that appear in the apportionment table, but rather included in separate tables. Regional medical student delegates or resident sectional delegates will be seated with their endorsing societies, and states are encouraged to include them in delegation activities and communications. The credential process for the Annual Meeting will begin in March. Under AMA bylaws, delegates and alternate delegates must be certified before each meeting. You will receive a separate communication regarding credentials. Please ensure that your delegates and alternate delegates have renewed their AMA memberships for 2019. AMA bylaws specify that all delegates ( 2.0.1.1) and alternate delegates ( 2.8.1) must be AMA members, and individuals who are not members will not be included on a delegation roster. You will be notified of any discrepancies. Delegation rosters can be found at https://www.ama-assn.org/house-delegates/hodorganization/delegation-rosters. Questions about the delegate apportionment process or the credentialing process should be directed to Roger Brown, Director, Office of House of Affairs, at 312-464-4434 or by email to roger.brown@ama-assn.org. Memo to: From: Executive Directors National Medical Specialty Societies James L. Madara, MD Date: February 4, 2019 Subject: 2019 Specialty Society Delegate Apportionment I am pleased to provide delegate apportionment figures for 2019. The 2019 delegate apportionment is based on official AMA membership records. Policy G-600.027, Designation of Specialty Societies for Representation in the House of, sets out the rules implementing Bylaw 2.2 to determine each specialty society s delegate apportionment. Constituent societies have been apportioned 281 delegates for 2019 (not including two delegate slots for the speakers per bylaw 2.5). Consequently, 281 delegates were apportioned across the 124 national medical specialty societies in the House, which includes societies expected to be admitted in June. Several societies were adjusted upwards to maintain the parity called for in the bylaws. Every society seated in the House of is entitled to one delegate, but the following 54 national specialty societies have more than one delegate (with a like number of alternate delegates): AMDA-The Society for Post-Acute and Long-Term Care Medicine... 2 American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry... 2 American Academy of Dermatology... 4 American Academy of Family Physicians... 16 American Academy of Neurology... 4 American Academy of Ophthalmology... 4 American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons... 5 American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery... 3 American Academy of Pediatrics... 5 American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation... 2 American Academy of Sleep Medicine*... 2 American Association for Geriatric Psychiatry... 2 American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists... 2 American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists... 2 American Association of Neurological Surgeons... 2 American College of Cardiology... 6 American College of Chest Physicians (CHEST)... 3 American College of Emergency Physicians... 7 American College of Gastroenterology... 2 American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists... 13

The net result is that there will be 281 specialty society delegates this year. Delegate apportionment figures for all specialty societies appear in the 2019 Specialty Society Delegate Apportionment table accompanying this memo. Several specialty societies have endorsed resident and fellow sectional representatives ( 2.4 of the bylaws) and are listed in a second table below. The delegate numbers above and in the Specialty Society Delegate Apportionment table do not include these resident and fellow sectional delegates, but allowance will be made to seat them with their endorsing societies. Societies are urged to make every effort to include these delegates and alternate delegates in pertinent activities and communications. Traditionally, delegates for national medical specialty societies with a single delegate have been seated in the House with the delegate s home state. Over the last few years, several specialty societies have indicated that they would like to be seated together, and these groupings will continue. Other specialty society
