The Institute was founded in 2003 with an aim to develop a "Center for Excellence", by eminent educationalists and social workers. The Campus, spread over 5.08 acres, is named as "Prasanta Sur Campus" after the founder Chairman Late Prasanta Sur. It is located in the heart of Kolkata, at Kudghat, which is a part of Tollygunge locality. The institute is about 500 meters away from Kudghat (Netaji) metro station. The institute is owned and managed by Calcutta Institute of Engineering and Management Society. CIEM is affiliated to Maulana Azad Kalam Azad University of Technology (MAKAUT) and approved by All India Council of Technical Education. Prof. (Dr.) Amitabha Das Dr. NIlanjan De Dr. Surajit Bhattacharyya Functions and duties: The Institute provides education services for the following technical and management programs: (1) Four year B.Tech. degree programs: Computer Science Engineering Information Technology Electrical Engineering Civil Engineering Electronics and Communication Engineering Instrumentation and Control Engineering (2) Two year degree program: Master of Business Administration (3) Three year degree programs: Bachelor in Business Administration (Honors) Bachelor in Computer Application The Institute conducts the following duties while providing educational services: Class room teaching. Conducting laboratory and workshop experiments and demonstrations. Conducting internal examinations. Conducting semester laboratory and workshop examinations on behalf of MAKAUT.
Conducting semester theory examinations on behalf of MAKAUT. Facilitating industrial trainings and internships. Conducting seminars for the faculty members and students. Facilitating research and projects for the students and the faculty members. Facilitating industry-academia activities and talent transformation. 2. THE PROCEDURE FOLLOWED IN THE DECISION MAKING PROCESS, INCLUDING CHANNELS OF SUPERVISION AND ACCOUNTABILITY The Institute was set up by CIEM Society, a registered Society which take all important decisions jointly by the Chairman of Board of Governors (BoG) through regularly held BoG meetings and the Principal of the Institute. 4. NORMS SET BY CIEM FOR THE DISCHARGE OF ITS FUNCTIONS (i) For day to day academic activities the Principal takes the decisions with the assistance from the Dean Academics. (ii) For day to day campus maintenance the Registrar takes the decisions after the approval from the Principal and these decisions are implemented by the Estate Officer. (iii) For other non-academic administrative activities the Registrar takes the decisions after the approval from the Principal and these decisions are implemented by the Administrative Officer.
(iv) For purchase activities the requisition is generated by the any academic or non-academic departments. The Principal takes decision regarding the approval of these requisitions. The Purchase Committee takes decision on these approved requisitions. The work order is released by the Accounts Officer with the approval from the Secretary, CIEM Society for purchasing the items cleared by the Purchase Committee. (v) The Central Library is managed by the Librarian with approval from the Principal. (vi) For all financial matters the CIEM Society takes the decision. (vii) For recruitment of faculty members interview committees are constituted with the Chairman of BoG as its head. (viii) All the major activities of the Institute are reported in the BoG meeting by the Principal. 5. ACTS, RULES, REGULATIONS, INSTRUCTIONS, MANUALS AND RECORDS HELD BY CIEM OR UNDER ITS CONTROL OR USED BY ITS EMPLOYEES FOR DISCHARGING ITS FUNCTIONS The rules and regulations used by the employees of CIEM for discharging their duties are mentioned in the Service Rules of CIEM which is available at http://ciem.ac.in/page.aspx?id=25. 6. The following committees contains members from the public: (i) Grievance Redressal cell The Cell is constituted entirely with eminent academicians from various universities of international reputation. The Cell has the authority to arbitrate any type of grievances raised by various stakeholders of the Institute.
(ii) Anti-ragging Committee The committee contains members from local law enforcement agencies and eminent persons. The committee arbitrates any complaints regarding ragging of any form raised by the students of the Institute. (iii) Internal Complaints Committee The committee is formed following the recommendations of "Vishakha" guideline and it contains lady members from the public with the experience in laws of "Sexual Harassment" against woman in workplace. The committee arbitrates complaint raised by the woman employees as notified in "Vishakha" guidelines. 8.
