Literacy & Early Learning Purpose: We must make sure ALL BVSD students are ready to meet changing literacy demands. We will pull together our expertise across the district to align literacy, language development and early learning practices PK-12. Plan: We will focus on these high leverage areas: PK-3 alignment; common high-quality materials, assessments, and best practices in literacy and language development PK-12; and embedding this work into our professional development and evaluation system. Expected outcome: All students can read, write, persuade, listen, collaborate, dream, play, question, wonder, solve, connect, and contribute actively for life. 19

Successful, Curious, Lifelong Learners BVSD honors the work of innovative teaching where students take the lead in learning through the BVSD Success Skills, their curiosity, interests, creativity, strengths, and passions. All students attain academic achievement and their future goals through multiple pathways that foster successful, curious, lifelong learning. 20

Systems of Support Systems of Support are the processes and practices that integrate universal instruction, prevention strategies and intervention components to meet the academic and social-emotional needs of all BVSD learners. We will build a strong foundation of safe, inclusive learning environments, supportand strong formative Values Goals assessment practices, and create clear processes for instruction and layered interventions that meet students where they are and move them forward. Through these systems, we will personalize learning for all students. 21

Employee Growth & Development Values and Goals Our talent is the key to student success! By fueling learning, discovery and advancement in all of our employees, we inspire a collaborative culture of growth for all. BVSD is committed to supporting relevant, high quality professional development aligned with BVSD goals and your effectiveness standards, from required learning to innovative coursework. 22

Employee Pipeline Educators have the greatest effect on life long student success. The Educator Pipeline is the conduit that attracts, recruits, hires and retains the highest quality TALENT. The educator pipeline is dedicated to creating a data-driven systematic approach to hire and retain a diverse community of educators that reflects the student population whom we serve. Key actions are to: Employ a diverse group of educators who reflects our student population Evaluate current recruiting, hiring, and retention practices Identify key attributes of successful candidates Develop a comprehensive national marketing plan Create dynamic systems for induction and retention 23

Parent & Family Partnerships Every parent and family desires success for their children, and BVSD recognizes families have an essential role in every student s achievement, success, and well-being. Our schools can help families be active partners in decision making that positively affects their children s education by promoting culturally responsive, two-way communication and creating a welcoming school culture. We will support success for every student by building collaborative relationships between schools, families and students. 24
