World Teacher s Day (26 October) Every day, Queensland teachers are making a positive difference creating opportunities for their students, empowering minds of young people and proudly teaching our state's future leaders, innovators and influencers. World Teachers' Day is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate and thank Queensland teachers for the important role they play across our state inside our classrooms and out in the community. Science Year 5 & 6 s are participating in a trial through the STEM Academy (Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics) in conjunction with Moonie SS. Teachers based in Brisbane are teaching our students through a virtual classroom. It s very exciting and it s great to see the students engaged in the learning. Day for Daniel The 26 th of October is the Day for Daniel. Day for Daniel is Australia s largest national day of action to raise awareness of child safety, protection and prevention. It is held on the last Friday of October every year and honours the memory of Daniel Morecombe. The theme of the day is to wear Red, Educate and Donate. We encourage students to wear red clothes for this day and to make a gold coin donation to support the Daniel Morecombe Foundation. The key child safety message on Day for Daniel encourages children to Recognise, React and Report if they don t feel safe. Students will participate in activities to reinforce this important message. Page 2 Meandarra News Term 4 Week 2 From Page 1 in a School Readiness Test (SRT) yesterday. The SRT is a familiarisation activity to help confirm each school s technical, student and staff readiness, and will help our school prepare for a transition to NAPLAN Online. It is not an assessment of student ability and there will be no reporting of student test results. The SRT provides two tests that take approximately 40 minutes to complete: a writing test for Years 5, 7 and 9 and an omnibus test for Years 3, 5, 7 and 9. The collective learnings of Queensland schools taking part in the SRT will help transitioning schools to have positive experiences with NAPLAN Online. The NAPLAN Online SRT is delivered to students using a locked-down browser so that students cannot access the internet or spell checkers while testing. Interested families can view the technical requirements on the Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority s (ACARA) assessment platform website: https://www.assessform.edu.au/layouts/technology/ Overview.aspx NAPLAN Online will provide a better assessment for all, more precise results and faster turnaround of information. It will: Feature tailored testing which gives students questions that are more suited to their ability resulting in better assessment and more precise results. Provide a more engaging test experience for students. Allow test results to be available within three weeks so teachers can identify learning priorities and meet individual student needs early. Parents and carers can also familiarise themselves with the NAPLAN Online platform by using the public demonstration site available at: www.nap.edu.au/online-assessment/naplanonline/naplan-online-public-demonstration-site. Further information about NAPLAN Online including frequently asked questions and answers are available at: www.nap.edu.au/online-assessment/naplan-online.
