Acknowledgments I am grateful to Richard Vedder and the Center for College Affordability and Productivity for initiating and supporting this project. In addition, I would like to thank the Social Philosophy and Policy Center at Bowling Green State University for the support of its Visiting Scholar program during the summer of 2009. The uninterrupted research time provided by Jeff Paul and Fred Miller was invaluable. Lastly, I would like to dedicate this volume to Sabrina Hall, my wife and best friend. Without her love and support, nothing I do would be possible. vii
