The evening was not just full of good food and fun games, but it showed our students the commitment we have towards promoting literacy in a fun and engaging way. It was great to see all of the interactions and laughter at the tables. Thank you so much for coming! Looking forward to February there are a few more opportunities for families to get involved with the school. We have been working very hard on promoting healthy relationships and on February 17 we will once again be a part of Pink Shirt Day. Throughout the years Pink Shirt Day has been celebrated to reinforce that in order to change the culture around bullying we must all work together. Then, after the break on February 27 th our annual Read to Ride kickoff will take place, however this year it will look a little different. Instead of Read to Ride it will be Mary s Math Movement. This change was made to follow both the Division and School directed Math initiatives. Information and log sheets will be sent home so please make the commitment as a family to get involved with Math each and every day. February also marks the start of the season of Lent. We begin with our school-wide breakfast on Shove Tuesday, February the 28 th and then on March 1 th the school celebrates Ash Wednesday with Sacred Heart at Church of Our Lady in the afternoon. I would like to invite and encourage everyone to come get involved and share in our Lenten preparations. Sincerely, Justin Clewis St. Mary Math Movement ballots will be sent home after our February break. Please stay in touch. Keep checking our website and Facebook as we will be posting more exciting stuff happening this month. Reminder!!!! Grade 8 Farewell Photos Wed. Feb. 15@10AM

ST. MARY MISSILE PAGE 3 COLD WEATHER PROCEDURES It s that time of year to remind students (and parents) to dress warmly for recess, noon hour, etc. We would also like to remind students who walk to school to time their walk so that they arrive just before the bell. We ask parents who drive their children to school not to bring them before 8:30AM if possible. Students will be asked to remain outside until 9:00AM and 12:40PM, the exception be inclement weather (see below) or permission granted by a teacher. Students are not to congregate on the main entrance steps before classes or at recesses. Students must be in their appropriate playground area. The color code system for cold weather works as follows: GREEN used when the temperature is LOWER THAN -25 C (including wind chill) Students may come into their classrooms in the morning and at noon. Parents, please time students arrival at school in such a way so as to spend the least amount of time in the entrances as possible. All students stay in at recess. Lunch students will stay in at noon.. RED used when the temperature is WARMER THAN -24 C (including wind chill) Students shall remain outside before school and go outside at recess and at lunch. ON Thursday, FEBRUARY 9, DRESS LIKE YOUR 100 YEARS OLD CRUSADER BASKETBALL The basketball season is in full swing! Games are posted online. Keep up the hard work Crusaders! Contact coaches if you have questions: Mrs. Delmage and Mrs. Lawson (boys.) All students must arrange their rides to and from the practices and games. Please do so prior to the day of practice or game. Thank you. A reminder to all parents & guardians: At St. Mary we encourage students to bring healthy meals that do not require the use of a microwaves but at times we realize that is not always possible. With that said, Microwave use is available on the following days: 1. Tuesdays, Wednesdays & Thursdays. 2. Please send utensils with your children should they need them with their lunch. Thank you
