Newsletter December 2015 2 Newcomers Training in Brussels 19-20 November 2015 For the second time in 2015, 19-20 November, Brussels was the venue for the Newcomers Training. The objective of the event was to give a comprehensive overview of the Eurodesk network s ongoing and upcoming initiatives. The training revolved around three keywords: efficiency, visibility and quality. Under the keyword efficiency newcomers were informed about the core services of Eurodesk. They were given a short intro on the history of the network and the organisational structure. There was a separate slot dedicated to activities on answering enquiries. An introduction to the Eurodesk intranet showed the different aspects of the tool, from basic dayto-day activities, to the role of a coordinator within FirstClass. Participants were also informed on how to manage and disseminate information on European opportunities coming from EBL through the intranet, the Bulletin and the Eurodesk Programme Database. The European Youth Portal slot explained how the CMS works, what are the guidelines for publishing new articles and how to obtain information about statistics through the EYP infographics. The visibility part included an introduction to the visual identity, the supportive communication materials available to communicate about Eurodesk, internal and external communication tools and projects (Eurodesk Awards, Time to Move etc.) and the EU related events that are communicated by the network. During the quality section of the training, the discussion revolved around the quality processes within the network, the soon-tobe-introduced Eurodesk Dashboard and the different meeting and training opportunities (Network Meeting, Multipliers Seminar etc.) that will be available in 2016. There are many possibilities to attend such trainings during 2016. Some occasions will cover all parts of the network; some will focus on specific fields. All Eurodesk coordinators are invited to have a look at the Eurodesk Network Calendar where upcoming training opportunities and working group dates are indicated for the coming year. Please send an email to EU001-Fabrice, if you are interested in joining one or more events. I knew next to nothing about Eurodesk when I arrived at the training course, but left two days later with everything I needed to know to become a representative for Eurodesk at my National Agency. Our group was also quite small compared to what I ve heard about the attendance at previous training courses, which opened up for in-class questions as we went through the training material. Professional and entertaining organizers that are truly committed to the work they do. Annette from Norway Welcoming Sara from Spain This month we are welcoming Sara Garcia, the new colleague at Eurodesk Spain. Sara has a degree in Spanish Literature and Linguistics and a master s degree in Education. She has started working two weeks ago for the Spanish Youth Institute (INJUVE) in Madrid and she is very excited about it: I really enjoy working here because it gives me the opportunity to combine two of my several passions: languages and being helpful for young people. Sara is only 27 years old and she thinks this is an advantage, since she can still join a lot of mobility programs and initiatives for youngsters and experience it by her own. I think this is the best way to help young people looking for advice, because I will be able not only to inform them, but also to explain the advantages of these programs, having the background of a firsthand experience. Sara is sure that working at Eurodesk is going to be a very fulfilling job for her and she hopes to become soon more acquainted with everyone in the network. Little by little I am getting familiar with the way of working here and that is thanks to the support and patience of my colleagues and network members. One particular thing to know about Sara is that she obsessed with Star Wars. In her introduction text she has only one left thing to say to the network: May the Force be with you! Module 2 of Eurodesk Qualifying Training Programme realised in Slovenia On 1st of December, Eurodesk Slovenia organised a second meeting of the newly established network of regional multipliers. As the implementation of the Eurodesk Training Qualifying Programme and the introduction of the main concepts of Eurodesk and youth information were successful, we now implemented the Module 2: Mobility Opportunities for young people. As I was a member of the Training Design Team, I was familiar with the flow and activities in the training module, so I was able to adapt it to the limited time we had available, that is one day. We had a productive and dynamic day, and we went home full of new information and ideas. The first activity of the day was the World Café, during which the representatives of Erasmus +: Youth in Action, Creative Europe, Erasmus for young Entrepreneurs, Eures: Your First Job, SCI Work camps and Summer Jobs in CCSUSA (Summer jobs in USA and elsewhere) presented their programmes through discussions. We discussed the topic of how to best present these mobility programmes to young people, to which we concluded that the best way was to share experience from young people as this is the closest. The second activity was the Taboo Game, in which we were guessing the name of the mobility programme. The idea was to think about the programmes in a different way and remember different aspects of a certain programme. We continued with the Fish Bowl - simulation of counselling a young person about the mobility options they have. We used the checklist of questions to ask a young person and again brainstormed on all the options a young person might have, including the option of having an international experience in a home country with participation in international projects. Next we tackled the different aspects of mobility: budget of the projects and possible hidden costs through the Budget builder activity, the recognition of experience, gained through international mobility projects in different contexts: at employers, local environment, family, friends and young people themselves. We went through the checklists regarding legal, health and safety aspects of mobility and discussed how to find a good quality organisation. The module worked really well and the participants appreciated the combination of the fun aspect through the games and the content delivered through presentations and the checklists. In the module there are many more methods described for raising the discussion about mobility, categorising further the programmes, so each National partner can choose, what would work best for their multipliers and their countries. The module as a whole can last for two days, but also certain activities alone can be implemented when appropriate. At the end of the day we concluded that we would collect stories of young people, who attended different programmes and print them out for dissemination. Also, the outcomes of other activities could be used for various printed materials for raising the interest and knowledge of young people about mobility opportunities and its benefits. Most importantly, the activities can be also used while working directly with young people. Newsletter December 2015 3

Newsletter December 2015 4 NAVIGATOR - a joint conference on mobility 03 December 2015 The representatives of Eurodesk Hungary, Europass, EURES and Euroguidance networks organised a joint conference on mobility in Budapest on 3 December 2015. The objective of the event was to establish a connection between theory and practice in the fields of mobility, employment, youth and education. The forum aimed to promote the services and showcase the best practices of the networks providing guidance in mobility, no matter if it is related to work, study, internship, volunteering or non-formal learning. The event, NAVIGATOR, served as a platform to share tools, methods, programmes and information on support and development already available in the mentioned EU networks. It was also an excellent place for us who work in the field of mobility information and guidance to meet, exchange and improve. In parallel, panels representatives of the different EU networks introduced their innovative tools and projects, and provided practical workshops with the facilitation of professional experts from the field on the following topics: mentoring before, during and after mobility how to introduce Europass documents in classrooms drama pedagogy in jobseeking guidance for successful mobility - the intercultural dimensions mobility counselling in vocational training More than 130 experts, counsellors and multipliers participated in the event. They listened to keynote speeches on career guidance and its relations to mobility, on expectations and prospects of generation Y in the context of mobility and the labour market, as well as on the importance of education, employment and competitiveness in the EU2020 strategy. Eurodesk Programme Database relaunch The Programme Database, one of the core tools of Eurodesk, will be relaunched soon. It will inform youth professionals and young people about funding opportunities. This renewed database shall support the network in its efforts to provide and disseminate international and national information about programmes for youth, in a short and understandable way. The information available in the database consists of calls for international programmes classified according to five categories (scholarships, trainings, internships, grants and competitions) and a set of relevant keywords. The new Content Management System is customisable and will support the sharing of Eurodesk content between different kind of users. Here are some highlighted functionalities: making changes in a programme and having them immediately deployed live on a website; supporting and properly displaying on the website all the punctuation signs, accents and languages; sharing national programmes (those available in English); implementing an archiving tool in the system for a better management and storing of the content; implementing and managing country groups (countries having the same languages can share their content); entering several deadlines for one programme and having an automatic update; entering programmes according to keywords; categories and target groups (individuals and/or organisations); implementation of a track changes tool that directly inform Eurodesk centres about changes; user management and much more. The content migration from the old database to the new database, will take place on 17 December. Eurodesk national coordinators will be supported along the process with appropriate online trainings and documentations.
