Dear Parents: As you may know, this year we ve been using Edmodo in our classroom. Edmodo is a safe social learning platform that lets our class connect both at school and from home. Edmodo Parent Accounts are now available and I d like to invite you to join our classroom online. With Parent Accounts, you can now: Send messages to your child and me, either together or individually View classwork and homework assignments and due dates Stay up to date on your child s grades Receive updates on class and school events Edmodo is accessible not just online but on any mobile device, so remember to set up your notifications to receive alerts and check edmodo on your phone. In addition, you can download free Edmodo Apps for both iphone and Android. Join our classroom on Edmodo in a few simple steps: 1. Go to www.edmodo.com 2. Select Parent Signup 3. Type your unique code: [ ] in the Parent Code field, then create your unique username and password. a. Use your code provided above. b. After you sign up for the first time, you will no longer need the parent code you ll login using your unique username and password. 4. Select Sign Up. That s all there is to it!. Edmodo.com Getting Started for Parents Parent accounts allow the exchange of messages between parents and teachers (including due dates and assignment reminders), provide parents direct access to grades, and alert families to school events and activities. Parent Sign-up Step 1: On the Edmodo.com start page, click on the I m a Parent Button in the middle of the Edmodo home page to sign up for your free account. A pop-up box will appear. You will need to enter the parent code that you were provided by your child s teacher. You will also need to state your relationship with the child and provide a valid email address to register your account. You will need your username and password to log in, in the future, so don t forget it!
Navigate the Parent Account Homepage: Within the Parent Account home page you can monitor messages between you, your child s teacher and your child, on the middle of the page in the Everything stream. If you have multiple children, you can filter to see just an individual child s interactions by clicking on their name in the left navigation. If you need to add additional children to your parent account, click on the Add Student button directly below the already added children s names. If you are looking for quick information about due dates grades and feedback, you can always look in the spotlight in the top right corner of the page beneath the search box.
Navigate the Parent Account Calendar: Within the calendar you can see all of the events, due dates, and assignments for each child enabled within the parent account. You can filter to see a single child s calendar by selecting it from the drop down menu directly to the right of the month and year designation. navigate the calendar with the drop down menus and forward and backward arrows to the left of the month and year designation. export or print this calendar for use in other calendaring software or to simply have it as a hard copy.
Navigate the Parent Account Grades Page: From the grading page, you can see all of the assignments that were given to your student within the parent account. You can switch between children and the courses for those individual children from the left navigation. Each assignment is hyperlinked to both the original file (or other type of turned-in materials) turned in by the student and comments from the teacher. To access them, simply click on the assignment title from the list. Each assignment will either have: a grade a dash (for a missing assignment) N/A (for an assignment given to some students in the class but not others) waiting (for a turned-in assignment that the teacher still needs to grade) At the bottom of the grades page, you will find the total points for the child and the total points possible for the given class (for all of the assignments turned in).
Navigate the Parent Account Settings Page: Choose Settings from the top right heading of the Parent Account homepage. From the Parent Account settings page, you can sign up for notification emails about assignments and direct messages from teachers as well as choose an image to represent your parent account within Edmodo. You can also use this page to change your email and password if you need to do so.
