Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life. (John 8:12) Dear Parents, Friends and Students Yesterday we celebrated Book Week with a Book Character Parade. It was great to see so many of the students taking the opportunity to dress up as their favourite book character. Thank you to our families who helped the students look so fantastic on the day. A big thank you to our P&F who donated a book prize for a boy and a girl in each class. Photos regarding the parade can be found elsewhere in this newsletter. Congratulations to the Year 3 and 4 students who received a Certificate of Excellence for their performance of Cockle Doodle Dandy. This is an outstanding achievement and congratulations to Mrs Aldred, Miss Zurzolo and Mrs Brescacin for their work in preparing the students for this. The adjudicator s report can be found in this newsletter. Last Thursday we had the privilege of welcoming the Stature of Our Lady of Fatima to our school. Six statues depicting the image of Our Lady of Fatima were blessed by Pope Francis in 2017 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Our Lady s appearance to the children of Fatima. The students had the opportunity to view the statue, pray to Our Lady and receive a scapular and rosary beads. Sister Clara, one of the religious sisters charged with accompanying the statue on its journey, explained to the children the importance of prayer and the power of love. It was a wonderful opportunity for our school to experience an aspect of our faith and rituals that are now not often seen in our Church. Thank you to Mrs Keddie for coordinating this visit. Thank you to those families who completed our school climate survey. Your contributions will assist our school in moving forward to be the best it can be. The survey is now closed. Today we held our final Milo Morning for this year. This has been an incredibly successful venture with a considerable amount of money raised for those in need. I would like to thank Mrs Keddie, the Minnie Vinnies and the staff for their organisation. I would also like to thank the school community for their support in this venture. St Vincent de Paul is extremely appreciative for what we have done. Next week we will hold our athletics carnival for this year. The jumps and throws will take place on Thursday 30th August and the running and team events will take place on Friday 31st August. Thank you to the parents who have volunteered to help out on either or both of the two days. We thank you for your generosity. We are praying for two fine days! On Friday 31st August the P&F will hold its Fathers Day Breakfast. This is being held before the beginning of the athletics carnival. I would like to thank the P&F for this initiative and look forward to seeing many Dads and Granddads at the breakfast. Have a great week! SPORTS REMINDER Faction Carnival next Friday 31st September. Students will need to wear their faction polo top & faction bucket hat. What a fabulous day we had yesterday! The children looked amazing in their costumes for the Book Week Parade. It was great to see so many different characters and the books that they came from. Well done to everyone involved!! We have been finding out interesting information about mixtures. We had great fun making playdough and looked at how each ingredient changed the mixture. Next week, during news, the children will present their mixtures homework activity. During art, soap flakes were added to paint to give it a 3D look and add to the texture. We have been working on masterpieces by the famous artist, Vincent Van Gogh. Our finished artwork should be ready for viewing next week! We are very excited about our excursion with Pre-Primary to the Constable Care Child Safety Foundation on Monday. Please return your child s permission slip by tomorrow if you have not already done so. Gina Nickels Year 3 & Year 4 Assembly BATTERY RECYCLING We are very pleased to do our bit for the environment by offering recycling collection for household batteries. You can drop your batteries off in the metal collection bin in the hallway opposite the Year 3 class room.
PRE-PRIMARY NEWS The children thoroughly enjoyed taking part in our school Book Week Parade yesterday and they all looked fantastic in their costumes. Thank you to all parents and guardians who made such a great effort with their costumes! Our excursion to the Constable Care Child Safety Foundation will take place next Monday 27 August. A letter was sent home on Tuesday giving information about it. The children are very excited about the school carnival and they have been practising very hard. This will take place next Friday 31 August on our school oval. The Pre Primary children will be participating in the carnival from the start of the day and sitting in their faction tents. The children will march out to the oval with their faction and remain in their faction tent throughout the day. Parents may come in to the school grounds and have recess/lunch with their children. However, the children will not be allowed to go to their parents on the oval. If parents are unable to attend the carnival, their children will come back to the classroom for recess and lunch. At the end of the carnival, the children will return to the classroom where they can be signed out by us. If parents wish to take their child before the end of the carnival, they will be required to sign out using the normal procedure i.e through the school office. Each child will be given a programme showing the races that he/she will be taking part in. We look forward to a very exciting, fun-filled day! Please see me if you have any questions regarding these upcoming events. Have a great week!
