76 INTRODUCTION AND RESOURCES Today s managers need to keep one step ahead of the rapid changes in the business environment. The wide range of skills possessed by a well-trained manager are in high demand across all commercial industries and service organisations. Successful managers are equipped with communications skills, a good grasp of financial planning techniques, the ability to manage change and a sound understanding of marketing and product development. Resources A newly resourced business management suite of rooms is the central location for management studies. The Honours and Foundation degree courses provide opportunities for students to develop as potential managers in all industries. The interactive boards and internet access in the business suite brings the world of industry and commerce into the learning and teaching environment. Whilst academic qualifications such as A levels, National Diplomas and HNCs will be considered, enthusiasm, experience and commitment are just as important. Progression The opportunity exists to progress to the BA (Hons) or the BSc (Hons) Marketing and Supply Chain Management. This course aims to develop graduates with an appropriate balance of academic understanding, specialist subject knowledge and core transferable skills. To achieve an Honours degree in Year 3, the module Applied Research must be taken in Semester 4 in place of Event Management or Career Development. This programme covers all aspects of general management. The emphasis throughout is on case study materials, portfolios and vocational tasks which integrates theoretical modules within an applied learning environment. Graduates will be well equipped to obtain employment with a wide range of large or small organisations within the UK or overseas.
