SCHEDULING High school is the educational road map to your future. Select courses that take you to your destination. Think about where you want to be after High School work, military, college Set SMART goals (Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic, and Timely) Find details about additional course options in the Westerville High School Academic Planning Guide located online at http://bit.do/wcsapg or see a hard copy in your School Counseling Office.
COURSE SELECTION Upperclassmen will receive recommendations from classroom teachers for continuation in required courses. Students choose electives and other academic courses. The master schedule is created based on student selection of courses. It is so important to choose wisely! If there is not sufficient interest in a particular course, it will not be provided during the upcoming school year!
STUDENT COURSE LOAD Every student must be enrolled in the following each semester: At least five credits of coursework (with P.E., six) An English course (your English teacher s recommendation) A math (your math teacher s recommendation) A science (your science teacher s recommendation) Social Studies (your social studies teacher s recommendation)
REASONS TO SCHEDULE WISELY Courses prepare you for more rigorous courses throughout your high school and post-secondary experiences. Colleges and universities are more likely to consider you if you take extra Science, Social Studies, and a Foreign Language beyond core requirements. Taking more classes than is required may help to offset lower ACT scores and/or lower class rank. College admissions are looking for seniors who do not minimize their course load in their senior year. Solid coursework makes you a more competitive applicant for admission and scholarships.
