Authorized Absence includes those matriculated students presently living in the U.S. but not enrolled in courses for the semester due to a medical condition. They have been granted a CIS leave of absence and are expected to resume their program of study in the Fall 015 semester. The University maintains their legal status and continues to provide service.

SUMMARY International Student and Scholar Enrollment Report Spring 015 The Spring 015 International Student and Scholar Enrollment Report is intended to provide a synopsis of the number of international students and scholars attending University of Hartford programs of study or participating in other academic endeavors, their academic distribution, and other characteristics or trends which might be of interest. Please note that the base figure used for international enrollment for the Spring 015 semester (58) reflects only the number of students enrolled in degree or certificate programs, the English Language Institute and exchange visitor programs lasting one year or more. As you read through this report, you will find various graphs, charts, and tables that may indicate larger populations than this figure. For specific reasons, each of these may have fluctuating sum totals to indicate various segments of our international programming unrelated to degree or certificate programs, but nonetheless indicative of University involvement in this area. In particular, please note that students engaged in practical training work experiences are not considered part of our base figure because, as a rule, they are not enrolled in classroom study or degree programs, though the University continues to maintain immigration related responsibility for them. Students involved in exchange programs of less than one year are kept separate from the base figure because of the short-term and non-degree nature of their activity. Students who have been granted a leave of absence by the US Citizenship and Immigration Service are also excluded from the base figure, though the USCIS considers them to be full-time students and they continue to receive assistance through the International Center. Finally, scholars and researchers are excluded if their activities are not degree related. Information for this report is based on data available to the International Center and does not necessarily reflect all aspects of University involvement in international programs or activities. General Analysis An analysis of this report indicates that there are 58 international students participating in University of Hartford degree and certificate-granting programs or long-term exchange programs for the Spring 015 semester. In addition, there are 56 students authorized to participate in Post Completion Practical Training work experiences and faculty scholars. In total, the University of Hartford is host to 64 international students and scholars for the Spring 015 semester. The current semester total of 58 international students attending on-campus degree or certificate programs represents an increase of +14 students from Spring 014 figures and an increase of +64 students from the previous Fall 014 semester. There are 6 students enrolled in undergraduate programs (including ELI) and 46 students enrolled in graduate programs. Undergraduate enrollment has increased by +17students and graduate enrollment has increased by +107 students when compared with Spring 014 figures.

Of the 58 students enrolled, 407 are male (70%) and 175 are female (0%). Spring 015 statistics show that 67 foreign countries of origin are represented within our international population. Students by College / Level CETA currently enrolls 0 international students. Overall enrollment there has increased by +1 students when compared to the previous Spring 014 semester, primarily due to increased enrollment of Indian and Saudi students. The Barney School currently enrolls 91 international students. When compared to Spring 014, enrollment has increased by +15 students. Over the same period, enrollment at the College of Arts and Sciences increased by +5 student (5). Enrollment at the College of Education, Nursing and Health Professions has decreased by - students (7). Enrollment at the Hartford Art School (7) increased by +1 student. Enrollment at the Hartt School (54) decreased by -1 students when compared to Spring 014 and the *English Language institute (18) decreased by -4 over the same period. *Note: For the purpose of this report, ELI s enrollment only includes those students who are not matriculated in a degree program and therefore is not reflective of this programs overall enrollment change from semester to semester (61 for Spring 014 and 41 for Spring 015). Students by Geographic Region and Citizenship Middle Eastern students represent the largest regional group within our international population at 45 students (4%). Students from Saudi Arabia (177) represent the largest subgroup within this region and accounts for nearly one-third of our entire international student population. Kuwait (46), the United Arab Emirates (7) and Jordan (4) are three other Middle Eastern countries with significant representation on campus. Enrollment of Saudi Arabian and Kuwaiti students has increased by +9 from Spring 014 to Spring 015. Students from Asia represent the second largest regional group within our international population at 1 students (8%). South Central Asians represent the largest group within the Asian population at 144 students. Indian students (140) represent the largest sub-group from this area and totals 4% of the overall international population. Indian student enrollment has increased by +108 students from Spring 014 to Spring 015. This increase is due to higher graduate program enrollment in CETA. Students from the PR China (4) and South Korea (5) represent other significant Asian subgroups. European students account for over 7% (4 students) of the total international population. Students from Turkey (19), Germany (4), and Denmark () represent the largest groups from this geographic area. Students from Africa (16) represent.7% of total enrollment. Students from Latin America, including those from the Caribbean represent 6.% (6 students) of total enrollment. Students from Jamaica (11), Mexico (6), and Brazil (4) represent the largest populations within this group. 4

Students from North America (14), principally Canadians, account for.4% of our total international enrollment. Students from Oceania, including Australia and New Zealand make up the remainder of our international community at just over 1% (7 students). Admission and Immigration Documents Admissions statistics maintained by the International Center show that 4 I-0 and DSP-019 immigration documents were issued to potential (accepted) international students for Spring 015. Of this number, 74 documents were issued to undergraduate students, 161 for graduate level study and 8 to ELI applicants. Of the 4 international students who sought admission and were accepted into programs, 11 chose to attend (49%). Of that number, 5 began undergraduate studies, 66 students commenced graduate study and entered our ELI program. 5

Students participating in "practical training" are authorized by the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Service to work offcampus in degree-related occupations following graduation. Typically, these students are not enrolled in courses but are considered by the USCIS to be students enrolled at the University of Hartford. They continue to use services provided by the International Center. This category includes those students who are enrolled in short-term (one semester or less), non-degree programs and other scholars and researchers who may be participating in non-student related activities. Authorized Absence includes those matriculated students presently living in the U.S. but not enrolled in courses for the semester due to a medical condition.
