About Bloxham School Bloxham School is an independent, co-educational boarding and day school for students aged 11 to 18, situated in the heart of Bloxham village in north Oxfordshire. The school was founded in 1860 by the Revered Philip Egerton and continues to provide a secure, friendly environment for its cohort of around 440 students, whilst offering facilities and opportunities worthy of a school of double its size. Bloxham is a smaller HMC school, but it has big ambitions and a strong ethos. The individual matters at Bloxham and the expectation is that every child will flourish. A Bloxham education is underpinned by its five Hallmarks: A Passion for Learning A Balanced Curriculum A Gold Standard of Pastoral Care The Development of Character Christian Values Main points of entry are at 11+, 13+ and 16+. Those students joining at 11+ spend two years in Bloxham s Lower School. In small, co-educational tutor groups, they are guided through a broad curriculum and activities programme, as we start laying the foundations of a Bloxham education. There is a fresh intake of students to Bloxham at 13+, who are often from one of the local prep schools. By Third Form all students are assigned to one of the school s six senior Boarding Houses, all of which have their own personalities. Bloxham s Sixth Form is flourishing, offering a stepping stone to students as they complete their A Levels and look ahead to their lives beyond the school gates. Bloxham has a long history of students going on to study at top universities, including Oxford, Cambridge and Russell Group universities. Other students choose to follow a different path and successfully gain places on prestigious apprenticeships and work placements. Throughout their time at Bloxham all students receive first-class advice and support from the Head of Careers, Dr Claire Evans, who also coordinates a number of inspiring careers events during each academic year. Bloxham is proud to be a member of Woodard Schools Corporation. Established in 1847, Woodard is now the largest group of Church of England Schools in the UK and is recognised as providing academic excellence and an unrivalled supportive environment where individuals can flourish. With 45 schools located throughout England and Wales, Woodard educates and supports 27,000 students a year. "Successfully combines academic challenge with plenty of sport, service and practical life skills. A perfect environment for happy all-rounders". (Good Schools Guide review, March 2015) Bloxham School 3 Head of Economics & Business

Head of Economics & Business The Post: Due to the departure of the current longstanding Head of Economics and Business we are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic, dynamic and talented teacher to work within and to lead the Economics and Business department. The successful candidate must be able to teach A-level Economics and Business. Currently the successful applicant would be the sole A-level Economics teacher (Edexcel) and the teaching will also include an A-level Business (Edexcel) group in either the lower or upper sixth. This may suit a teacher looking to move to Head of Department, or someone with previous leadership experience. The successful candidate will be expected to teach approximately 34 one-hour periods over a two-week timetable, in addition to Head of Department responsibilities. You will have an active role in the life of a boarding school and contribute to both the broader curriculum and the pastoral life of the school. Bloxham school seeks to educate the whole child and the successful candidate will have a commitment to this. The department has three full-time members of staff and each have their own classroom with interactive whiteboards. There is also an adjacent department office that provides a workspace and a library of teaching resources, including texts, worksheets and DVDs for use in lessons. The department members have a great love of the subject which is shared with our students and the aim is to make the subject interesting, relevant and enjoyable. The new Head of Economics and Business will need to be equally enthusiastic and be keen to foster this passion for the subject in their students. Teaching staff at Bloxham are issued with a laptop, as are all pupils when they reach Third Form (Year 9), which offers wireless connectivity to the School s network. This gives internet and email access throughout the school. These devices are used to receive and send work to pupils via the Intranet (FireFly). A-level Economics Economics is a popular A-level choice and has strong cohorts in both the Upper and Lower Sixth. The current specification studied is Edexcel. Business There are currently two A-level Business sets in the Upper Sixth and two in the Lower Sixth. In addition, we have introduced CTEC Business for the first time this September. At GCSE, Business is one of the most popular options with over half of the year group choosing to study the subject. Enrichment activities Currently the department organises Young Enterprise, 6th Form Business club lectures and a variety of factory tours and educational visits. In the last two years, we have taken departmental trips to Dubai and Shanghai this has helped enrich the subject and its already considerable reputation within the school. We are keen to develop activities further e.g. enterprise days, IFS student investor and the new Head of Department would be expected to continue to enhance the reputation of the department both internally and externally to the school. The Headmaster is currently assessing the viability of running a mini MBA in the Sixth Form which is an area that the new Head of Department may be encouraged to take a lead.
