Overview The purpose of the presentation is to provide the following: A description of the process by which the 2013-2016 District Strategic Plan was developed. An overview of the wide participation of stakeholders in developing the plan. A description of the plan s framework. A short presentation of the behavioral objectives of the plan. A description of the monitoring and reporting plan.

DISTRICT STRATEGIC PLAN

MISSION STATEMENT The Coventry Public Schools, with community partnerships, educate, inspire and motivate students to be life-long learners.

District Strategic Plan Hierarchy Process Strategic Objectives Goals Activities Owners are assigned to each process and objective. Note: Reference pages 2-5 for a list of processes, objectives, and goals.

STRATEGIC OBJECTIVES Implement a guaranteed, viable curriculum. Implement a comprehensive balanced assessment program. Improve instructional strategies to accelerate learning. Offer programs that enrich and support student growth. Create and maintain a safe and secure educational environment. Create supportive educational environments. Implement a professional development program. Assign personnel to support the District Strategic Plan. Improve the efficiency and effectiveness of financial and human resources technology architecture and systems.

STRATEGIC OBJECTIVES Implement a school-based operating budget that guarantees equity in all student educational services based upon the overall school need. Develop a technology deployment plan with CDW for technology hardware, software and professional development. Provide reliable informational technology infrastructure, tools and resources. Develop and maintain a culture that supports a Technology Rich Classroom. Manage compliance to Policies, Contracts and State and Federal Laws. Establish and maintain both informal and formal lines of communication with the community and with local and state government officials. Standardize online communication with parents and students. Improve and maintain school facilities, grounds and equipment. Work with School Construction Architect and Building Committee to develop and implement construction plans.

Dr. Michael Almeida, EdD is an additional facilitator and advisory for all teams.

District Strategic Planning Team Meeting Schedule This District Strategic Planning Team will meet in January and May to assess progress toward objectives and goals and prepare a list of recommendations to the plan. These recommendations will be presented to the Superintendent of Schools who will present the Mid-Year Progress Report and the Year-End Progress Report to the School Committee. The team will meet a minimum of four (4) times a year. District Strategic Planning Team Review Schedule Below is a schedule for the team s reports to the Superintendent of Schools: By January 15 th, District Strategic Planning Team will meet to assess progress toward objectives and goals and to make revisions, as necessary. By February 15 th, the Team will present its report to the Superintendent of Schools. By the last meeting of the School Committee in February, the Superintendent of Schools will present the Mid-Year Progress Report to the School Committee. By May 15 th, the District Strategic Planning Committee will meet to assess progress toward objectives and goals and to make revisions, as necessary. By June 15 th, the Team will present its report to the Superintendent of Schools. By the last meeting of the School Committee in July, the Superintendent of Schools will present the Year-End Progress Report and an updated Strategic Plan. The report will use a standard format that will facilitate reporting.

District Enrollment Capacity Task Force The following team also will be formed: An Enrollment Capacity Task Force to explore options to address enrollment capacity issues. (Under Manage the Environment for Learning) The Enrollment Capacity Task Force will follow the instructions for the District Strategic Objective Team listed above. The Task Force Leader must report monthly by the 15 th of the month on the progress of the team to the Superintendent of Schools and to the Lead Facilitator of the District Strategic Planning Team. The superintendent will provide a report to the School Committee on the progress of the team. The Task Force will conclude its work with its recommendation report to the School Committee by March 15, 2014.

TECHNOLOGY RICH CLASSROOM The Technology Rich Classroom immerses technology into the learning environment resulting in improved student learning. The goal is to bring about change; change in the way teachers teach, change in the way students learn, and change in the way student learning is demonstrated and assessed. (See page 8)
